Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Win this thing! By writing FRESH stories! All the beast, ~Moon~ I didn't even notice the present tense when I read it. Well done. Speaking of fresh stories, what's the scuttlebutt on HRs and SHRs revising their stories and achieving a win or higher placement? They don't get feedback so maybe they w...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

I meant that Andrew and Wulf's stories were both in present tense, not first person! I haven't had my caffeine yet this morning. I'm guessing that's what they were referring to. Having read the anthology, in my highly biased opinion Wulf's story was the only one that needed to be present tense. I d...

Re: How Short Is Too Short?

I will echo KD's comments, that was then, this is now. The contest has changed, writing has changed. I've heard comments some of the winning stories of the past would likely only make HM now. I agree. But good recall, Preston! You're a superfan! Two words: world building. Dave is big on this. He tal...

Oh, and now that some of you have read the anthology, if you love this contest and what it does, you can really help us right now. John Goodwin told us when we receive 100 reviews on Amazon, it shoots the algorithm into another plane, massively increasing the anthology's exposure on their platform. ...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

Just finished Vol. 35 - Wulf, your story was a delight. I have a soft spot for dogs and you twanged my heartstrings beautifully. I’m also impressed how you made it relevant to contemporary issues without irrevocably dating it. I really enjoyed it. They’re all great stories. Life of the Party might ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Do Rs ever get any feedback? I seemed to recall someone posted that they got an R but Katy liked their opening. (I could have misunderstood-I often do). Only semifinalists get feedback in the form of a critique from the coordinating judge. Because of the critique, it disqualifies the story from bei...

Expectomancy! Nice! This is how I think it goes at the moment: 1. Finalists get a phone call. They are asked not to share on the internet yet. 2. The first waves go out on email over a few days - includes R, HM ,SHM. There doesn’t seem to be a clear order or anything. 3. Semi finalists wait a week ...

Last year it looks like the calls went out the week after the GALA, and the notifications for all else went out the following Monday (April 16, 2018). So, relax. Have a cup of coffee or tea or whatever. Tickle your keyboards with wild imagination. Start shivering again next Thursday and Friday. Wis...

You hear Gollum's scream as the trophy floats away. "GAAAAAH! MY PRE-CIOUS!!!" The cold hard lands They bites our hands, They gnaws our feet, The rocks and stones Are like old bones All bare of meat. But stream and pool Is wet and cool So nice for feet! So sleek, so fair! What a joy to me...

I promise. But if you see your trophy suddenly dance across the stage and make a mad dash for the back door, you'll know I couldn't keep it.
