Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

We haven't heard about any finalists yet. This may be why. Dave said this on his FB page today:

"Yay, I should be able to start judging this week, then, on Q4. Most of the entries come in electroncially, so I've already begun reading those."

Re: 4 in 36

Backing up Michael, the challenge is to make sure we enter every quarter. You can't win if you don't enter. Enter every quarter? Odds get better. Just the facts, ma'm. Some have won rewriting, getting a rejection, workshopping and rewriting, getting an HM, workshopping and rewriting, making finalist...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hey, Joe, you found us! Thanks for accepting my invite! TRACE THE STARS has some great authors in the table of contents, like DAVID FARLAND and KEVIN J. ANDERSON. Nope, no one around here has heard of those guys. : ) Pam and Yvette, welcome as well! As always, do post in the quarter you intend to su...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Still waiting for any info. Does anyone know if finalists have been announced? wotf017 Finalists have not been announced. Check the WotF official website and read under the Blog heading for the official announcement of results. Until then, the only way we know is if little birds tell us, like some ...

Figured I should post this under the actual challenge as well. Our Girl in the Glasses got to share her story on creating 5 in 35! Well done, Brittany! Re: Last few days for V35, care to Tweet or Share?

Great post, Wulf. I bet this contest is one of the biggest engines of pro-level writing at the moment because of the gamification aspects: collecting certificates for writing well even if you don't publish, reliably getting five levels of feedback (R, HM, SHM, SF, F), total anonymity, a high volume...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

My take on trying to improve ratios. It's good to know what Dave likes. It's important to read stories in the market you are trying to sell to, in this case, WotF volumes. But if one starts believing there is a formula that *must* be followed, your stories can become formulaic. The bone work begins ...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

I'm expecting quick results this Q. First reader Kary clipping away, Dave healthy again, pressure to move quick to get the anthology printed before the gala, seems like a perfect storm! That would totally increase my twitching for results, but as I've read on the Q3 forum, not everybody has their r...

Re: From whom would an Honorable Mention notification come?

Willow--see Q3 vol 35, I answered your question there. As to the Winner's listing for each quarter, those come out later, because it's possible the judges are still reading and voting on the Finalists. It can't be posted until results are in.

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

I've cycled back to rejections. For those keeping track, I did get the first pass email (I can't remember if I checked in here when I did). I'm off to send the story somewhere else! wotf024 Sorry, Beth. Rejections suck. But good you are sending it elsewhere. You still have a nice record. Very, very...

Willow: Its legit--I got the same. Joni wrote 2nd Quarter in the subject line by mistake. Even she has a hard time keeping track of all the quarters, it would seem. : ) The body of the email shows you it is indeed for your 3rd Quarter entry. Congrats! DO reply to get the certificate, they are lovely...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

R for me too. Deciding I really don't like the addition of the "still in the running" emails.... Same here. No sour grapes, don’t get me wrong! Just seems like a “still in the running” is totally incongruent with a flat-out R. Onward and upward! It means Kary liked your opening, and sent ...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Same here, 3rd HM. Brandon Sanderson received his first pub deal the year after his first HM, so I’ll take it! I think they indeed had more entries this quarter, as some have been saying, because I’m positive this story would have beaten my other HMs. I know for a fact they had more entries this qu...

Honourable Mention. And so I bow out with 10 HMs and 1 Finalist. It's been a good run, and I've learned loads by entering the contest throughout the years and having deadlines to work with. Cheering for the rest of you, and I'm still up for story exchanges in the future should anyone need it. Congr...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

HM. So much for trying humor to see if it would turn the tables for me. This is now 13 honors out of the 14 times I've entered with Dave as judge. The good news is there's still one more quarter for the year, and I'm in! One more chance to meet Topanga Canyon, I mean, Preston, in Hollywood! Congrats...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Here's a radical thought: What if they don't call Finalists anymore? What if Joni is actually saying they are posting ALL results? This would mean the eight finalists would be sent to the judges as soon as Dave sends in the total batch. And all notices get held until the judges vote on First, Secon...

Re: Last few days for V35, care to Tweet or Share?

It must have worked, Kary. I heard from a little bird last Q was the most EVER for WotF! Do you reckon we're pushing 2,000 at this point? I would think so. It has been conjectured 10% make the cut to the final pile Dave selects Finalists, Semi's, Silvers, and HMs from, and no doubt some get rejecti...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

I have a question that may seem on the newb side. Does anyone ever enter both writer and illustrator contests in the same quarter? What I'm thinking of entering for Q1 (assuming I have the time of course) has a nice visual that is tempting to try to illustrate. Follow up... has anyone ever won both...

Adchrimes: It's never wasted to get a story in. If it doesn't win, you can always revise and submit again--unless it gets Semfinalist, which gets a critique. And that's a good thing too, because it will show you what you need to work on in your next!
