Re: Reject Rejectomancy!

Good reminder. This is probably why it's taken me 17 years to even submit a story. It's a 100% non-rejection rate for unsubmitted stories. A rejection is closer to success than an unsubmitted non-rejection. wotf011 Amy, I hear you. That is called self-rejecting. Many *beginning* writers self-reject...

Good morning all, I'm still kinda getting my feet under me in the real world, and have only just begun trying to record thoughts/impressions/experiences from the conference. I'm going to put some stuff up at my site rather than drop huge walls of text over here, because I think the reading experien...

Here's an idea, since Sean Hazlett dropped by (hi Sean!). Why don't we fill the short jaunt to 5000 with advice on how to win the contest from former winners. It can be something you did that turned the page, something you learned at the workshop, something someone told you on a critique, advice fr...

Reject Rejectomancy!

I posted this under the Silver HM topic, but I feel it really needs to be its own topic. Here we go: Try not to read too much into what made your HM fail to win. It's equivalent to a personal rejection from a pro publisher. You can drive yourself nuts trying to guess at what got it rejected. Ken Liu...

Here's a downside to the workshop: Eventually it ends and you have to fly home. Grrr. I'm going to go through my notes once I settle back into real life and hopefully will be able to parrot some of the wisdom we heard along. If you ever get a chance to talk to Tim Powers seize it with both hands. T...

Can the story be more than 17000 words? Nope. Nor can it be over 68 pages of courier new 12 pt 1.5" margins. (someone correct me if I'm wrong on the #s) Reason: 250 words per page (printed) x 68 = 17000 Just a friendly reminder: 17,000 on word count is the max you may submit. And it's actual w...
