Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

I've sold three HMs. Heck, there are people who've sold Rs. That's pretty awesome. I've gotten into the odd habit of wondering how some of the pro stories I've come across would fare on Dave's desk--and how some of the WotF stories would fare on, say, Neil Clarke or C.C. Finlay's desk. You really n...

Re: Last few days for V35, care to Tweet or Share?

Great post, Wulf. I bet this contest is one of the biggest engines of pro-level writing at the moment because of the gamification aspects: collecting certificates for writing well even if you don't publish, reliably getting five levels of feedback (R, HM, SHM, SF, F), total anonymity, a high volume ...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

To me it seems there must be a huge range of quality in HMs, but they are all at a publishable level.. I remember reading somewhere that HMs are stories that are close to publishable but have a missing element, such as theme. It makes sense that HMs would have a wide range of quality if some storie...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hey all, Been lurking for a little while, both for the solid advice and because your comments are funny and inspiring. Getting an HM was the tipping point for me signing up; I don't feel I'm gonna break into SF territory until I understand this contest better and improve my writing. I'm one of those...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

This one almost broke my heart; from Liminal: "The story is excellent, but it's not quite right for us. Thanks for the read -- I loved the emotional depth and complexity of this piece, and the multi-layered protagonists felt rounded and real." wotf017 This story has been getting a lot of ...
