Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

I have no idea what I'll get. Setting my expectations low with an R though as it's unlike what usually gets published in the Writers of the Future anthology. I'm just glad that everything is ok with Dave per the sepsis. And feeling for Joni as trying to deal with the submission cut off for Q4 and th...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 35

I'm in. Not sure if it is sci fi (Wikipedia's attempt to define "sci fi" wasn't much help), but I'm in.

Re: Can you recommend a writing teacher?

I haven't tried it myself, but I got this link from David Farland's Writing Tips email (the email is free) which might be what you're looking for. He seems to have online classes as well. https://www.patreon.com/DavidFarland You might want to think about finding a developmental editor. The developme...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35

Made it though the first pass. Surprised that I made it though the first pass as what I submitted is unlike what usually gets published in the WOTF anthology which makes me suspect the initial pass sample is quite large. Expecting rejection when Dave gets it, but hopefully he will enjoy reading it b...

2008 interview with David Farland on Writing Excuses

An older podcast (Dec 21, 2008), but very interesting to listen to as WOTF entrant! Writing Excuses Season 2 Episode 11: Talking Publishing and Writing with Dave Wolverton Dave Wolverton joins us for a third and final episode, and the Writing Excuses team pumps him for information before letting him...

Re: Where do you get your inspiration?

I have a list of interesting scientific what if ideas I’d like to explore. I think about them and daydream until I get story ideas that both work as a story and also as a vehicle for exploring the idea.

Re: Discussion - Q2 - Volume 35

I am super excited to get an honorable mention! It's so awesome to know that 1. David Farland actually liked my story enough to read it all the way through and 2. he deemed it worthy of an honorable mention! I remember struggling to write that story starting over a year ago. The ideas were good, but...

Re: Why Do You Write?

I just write because it seems like an interesting art form to try and master. I have a bucket list of things to try in this life, like writing a song (did it, it was just ok), write a screenplay (done), write a novel (working on it), make a commercial games website (done), etc. If other people like ...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Here is the anthology I read. I really enjoyed it. I wish this kind of writing was still in style. The details are below - it’s in the Orange County, California library system. The science fiction century by Hartwell, David G. Edition 1st ed. Publication Date 1997 Preferred Shelf Number SCIENCE FICT...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Huh “litigation”? Did you mean to type “rejection”? The rejection is ok. It was my first sci fi story and to figure out the conventions, I read an anthology of the greatest sci fi short stories of the last century. Which meant that I ended up writing a really nice sci fi story that followed the conv...

Re: Where do you get your inspiration?

I think about interesting scientific scenarios and eventually those morph into ideas for sci fi stories.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hi, I just sent in my second WOTF entry today. My first entry last year got rejected. I went to the WOTF award ceremony last year and enjoyed it -- it was great getting to meet the WOTF winners and say hello and get my anthology signed! Not sure if I’m going to go this year - I’m tempted but family ...
