Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Yes, thank you. Your notes are always helpful. Especially, Dave himself even noted one time how using words incorrectly might get you R. And I know it might sound completely illogical when I heard it from my Russian professor. But the more languages you speak the less you have a chance to correctly ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Thank you guys, I don't know how on earth I thought it could be appropriate for the contest. About deleting references to the stories we send to the contest, is writing about your stories on the forum gets you disqualified or it is regarding my story project? I know I ask dumb questions wotf007 but ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Thank you, yes I decided to go with the another story I initially planned. No explicit content even remotely. Sigh sigh. If there was anyway to hide the backstory and sound real I'm sure it would land me at least an HM. Yes, reading anthologies is important, because my 1st submission (Q3 last year) ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Yaay big response from Wulf Moon, that made my day wotf010 Yes I didn't mentioned it was a mysteryş Thanks to you İ found out it's called cozy. I'm also conspiring its about the ethnicity of antihero that editors fear to get sued. I'll change his ethnicity and shop it around to cozy mystery market. ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Hello Wulf Moon, I always read your answers to other writers with great interest. I have an off topic question. I have this story that gets nice personal notes already 7 times from various anthologies but still rejection. In one of the last responses the editor said relatively cozy narrative of the ...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Just finished copying notes from Dave's blog - 270 000 words (hope it's not illegal, I'll just read it and take notes). Keeping my head up. But I have a lot of work ahead. Bare with my ignorance but isn't Wulf Moon last year's finalist? If yes, then I guess she couldn't take part in Q1 or no? I have...

My first story that got a bright "R" was sold to an anthology. So don't lose hopes Okay. I am more than likely joining all those Rs out there, but the email confused me a bit. Joni merely said my story didn't place. Is that what you guys got, "Didn't place"? If so . . . wotf053 &...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

Speaking of fresh stories, what's the scuttlebutt on HRs and SHRs revising their stories and achieving a win or higher placement? They don't get feedback so maybe they would not realize what needed to be changed. Seems to me, you would strongly consider revising and resubmitting if you could discer...

wotf010 I am also a weirdo. I gave myself a year off when I was at high-school. I get when they ask story to be 10k or under. But it's frustrating when submissions for Anthologies ask you to write a story under 5k. Like how am I supposed to develop an impressive story under 5k? Normally my stories tend to be 6k-7k long. Even at Future Science Fiction Digest, where I'm an editor...

Although I'm fairly new to the forum, I learned valuable things I had no idea of previously. Yes, R&R is a great thing in my opinion even if it lead to a rejection.
