Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Hey Swift,

Just wanted to check in that I have submitted my story to WOTF, and another new story is out to a respectable market. I am also 9/12 for KYD exercises.

Dialogue Assignment part 2: Hecate gave the potion a final stir. “There! Come bring the vial, child!” “Oh! But which one? How big?” The child looked up at the shelf filled with shining glass, trying to spot the empty vials from among the filled ones. “That one! Next to the rat’s whiskers. It’s empty...

Thanks for the crit Wulf! And thanks for the offer to look over my first couple of pages! I have to get my wise reader to give them another look over so I can send them to you.

Really enjoying reading everyone's work!

Re: Professional Editor for WOTF piece?

I haven't hired an editor, but the library in my city has a writer in residence every year. I saw him twice, and each time sent him part of my story that I was intending to enter (they were limited to 3000 words at a time). He gave a line by line critique and plenty of other help, all for free, plus...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I just wanted to remind anyone that is struggling, that things aren't the same. With covid-19, kids at home (and possibly anxious) whatever you have going on, things are different. Any major life event brings some change with it, and that can definitely affect your work flow and energy. I've been se...

1) what flow state is, 2) what triggers can help activate it, 3) what can steal it from us, 4) and how you plan to personally enhance your working environment and mental state to usher in more flow state writing. 1) Flow state is you working under optimal conditions. You are happy, feeling good and ...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

Congrats on the interview Leah! Studying is definitely important, and I think sometimes we forget how much, since you don't have to go to school to be a writer! If you think about it though, to get a degree you are studying and learning for four years, although you shaved a lot of that off by findin...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

If you take a look at the quarterly results section you can see when results came in for each quarter in the past. In 2018 for quarter one, they started coming in on the 16 of April. In 2019, they came on April 18, and this year was the 21, so not a huge delay from what is typical at all. For quarte...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I just finished the workshop, now to these assignments! For the workshop assignment: Honestly my first take away is what Dave is looking for in terms of conflict. He said that he sees many life or death stories, but sometimes that is over done. He needs more romance and humour, so if you have one of...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I have started the workshop as well. I'm trying to go through it slowly, making careful notes and making sure I get as much out of it as I can. I will be working through it steadily in the coming days.

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I thought, since I did speak to a published writer this past quarter that I should share what he said so all can benefit. Of course, this is specific to my writing, so you'll have to take what resonates with you. Really check over your grammar and formatting. You don't want an editor hung up by smal...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I too have only achieved HM's at this point. I know there are still problems with my writing. For quarter two I got an excellent critique, (thanks Dustin!) and I also took that story to the writer in residence at our library. Between the two, I got some idea of what was lacking or could be changed i...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I was thinking of keeping this private, but I decided to post. I'll keep it brief though. My top tier, like many others, is F&SF. I think that has to do a lot with the encouragement of the editor. I've been getting the top tier rejection from him, but I'm not sure how close I'm really getting on...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

I chose the picture for the story prompt that was done during the workshop. Wulf got a blank piece of paper, and his roommate got a coin. While the gala pictures are flashy and wonderful, and a once in a lifetime experience, I find them a bit overwhelming if I think about myself there! I was more dr...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge!

Wulf this brings up a question I have for you: If you could only choose one, would you recommend paying for professional critiques from a NYT bestseller on a monthly basis (like what I mentioned above) OR paying for a workshop (take Dave’s upcoming fantasy workshop for example)? Have you looked int...

He received many rejections. 2. As all seemed lost for our hero, what question did his wife ask him that’s a good ...
