Re: Success!

I completely forgot to post here, but my serial-HM story to WoTF, Lavender Footsteps , is in The Colored Lens's Summer 2019 issue. It's also my first paid sale and I'm pretty stoked. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it's free to read, so give it a go! https://www.amazon.com/Colored-Lens-Summer-2019-eb...

Re: What do you do with stories when you can't find a suitable market?

I share them with my first readers (friends and fam who are actively interested in reading my work) and edit them thereafter as if I was prepping them for a market. New markets are born every week. Good to have a stable.

Made the "Long List" of a beautiful Indie Print magazine. Fingers very crossed for the Short List and Approval. I think the story is an especially good fit, but know so many others are out there writing their hearts out.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

After 80 days, I heard back from GE: "...We’re overflowing with submissions right now, and so I must be extra-picky. Your* writing is strong, but not quite up to the other pieces I’m passing... Wish I had better news. Good fortune on submitting to another market..." Never made it to Mike's...

Cover Letters on Paid Market Submissions

Hey All! Still haven't joined the ranks of Rs, HMs, and xFs, but I have enjoyed the discussion/wisdom on the board. Let's cultivate more :) What are your standard practices on cover letters sent to paid markets as new/young writers? I usually mention that I am a professional writer and disclose that...

Looking to get in this quarter for the first time.
Do many of you try your hand at submitting your stories to pro-markets before submitting a story here (after rejection)?

I submitted 1/15 and just heard from Mike last night. However, I emailed them in March and got an update and was told it made it out of slush. I assume you emailed them. SubInq@GalaxysEdge.com Mike had a serious medical event so I'm sure that has impacted things. I got a really lovely rejection on ...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Had one make it out of the Galaxy's Edge slush pile. Mike Resnick just sent me a brief rejection email. No feedback. But I feel good it made it to his desk. I admire Mike a lot. "this is just one editor's decision . . . I wish you every success placing it elsewhere." Oh well. I can't even...

Update: Encouraging Personal reply 8 weeks later. Seems they are seriously overwhelmed by submissions. Editorial asst. said they were being extra picky and that my writing was strong. :)
