Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Since the story was for a specific zine, general recommendation is to let it rest for a few months because everyone else who got rejected will be sending those out for a little while. After that, you should be able to send it elsewhere with less worries. I would definitely recommend sending it othe...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Ha ha Liz. But now I'm in the dumps. Got a form rejection just now on something I wrote specifically for a zine issue based on re-tellings of the Odyssey books. A little more painful than normal because the story was a rifle shot aimed only at this zine for this issue. Not sure where else to send it...

Oh I agree. By "bad" I meant horribly corny. Just funnin. I wasn't critiquing the advice which was, as usual, spot on. wotf007. I am following that advice--just waiting on a couple of markets to reopen for submissions.

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

This may come as a shocker, but an HM only guarantees that your first two pages passed the smell test, and showed merit. First reader Kary saw that you can write well, and that the story has potential, and sent it on to Dave. Dave could have looked at those same first two pages and said, "Yup,...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Now that I received my rejection, I can publicly confess. I started my story with my protagonist waking up. It may not have been good enough otherwise but that didn't help. The story was written before I found out that starting a story this way is a common rookie mistake. I think I had a lot of bad ...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Just got an extremely detailed personal rejection from Cosmic Roots and Eldritch Shores. We're talking almost 350 words. wotf015 On the one hand, they definitely read my story start to finish. On the other hand, a lot of the issues they had stemmed from wanting more depth on the world-building, and...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

I still believe notices won't happen until the end of the month at the soonest. Cookie, having had enough of the cowboys' merriment, dumped his bucket over the camp fire. Steam, and wet hot ash, splattered those unfortunate enough to be sitting opposite. With a harrumph, Cookie hobbled back to his ...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Yes, that seems to be the same sequence that was settled upon in the Q1 thread which was as follows. I note that, for Q1, Rs and HMs seemed to all come out April 18, a couples of SFs announced theirs on April 21, some finalists were revealed May 14, and results went up on May 15. Quote from the Q1 t...

Winning Stories Rejected by the Zines?

Don't know why I became curious about this. Maybe because the story I am considering for 2019 Q4 has two rejections. Have there been winning stories that were previously rejected by the zines? I know that there have been plenty of finalists, semis, and HMs that went on to be published.
