Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Be careful of posting details about your stories - the contest is anonymous. I'm not sure I understand. What is the problem with posting details of our stories here so long as we submit them anonymously to the contest? The thought is that a judge will see your description and then later recognize y...

Re: Contest Questions

Thanks SCA Fontaine and Chuck. I wish they had put some clearer "as of" verbage and dates and rates into those rules. As it reads right now, a person could have a dozen former pro sales at $0.06 and now compete in WotF. That would not be fair. But it's how the rules read at present. I hop...

Re: Contest Questions

The Facebook page says they will pay more. I was more talking about the contest rules but looks like they did change the rule. It now says only sales at .08/word count as a professional sale.

Re: Contest Questions

Did they bump the definition of a pro sale to .08 (from .06) per word?

Say-what is the procedure for acceptance (with a zine--not the contest)? Do they email you? Call you? Do they put it on hold for a while? I'm planning to find out first hand but . . . wotf004

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

It was interesting to hear Dean Wesley Smith tell Preston that it really matters to keep hitting the zines with stories. They learn your name and watch your progress if you have any promise. And they see a dedicated writer they might invest in. Makes total sense from their standpoint. Why invest ink...

Re: Moon's SUPER SECRET Bonus Challenge! Vol. 36

Your 10,000 hours comment makes me think of Preston and how many short stories he said he wrote and submitted. I've already forgotten but it was a lot. Hundreds. That's rather intimidating for me. I can't generate the kind of volume and keep the paying job. Writing has to be a part-time thing for no...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

TFW you scroll back through old F&SF rejections and realize that half your stories have received Charlies, actually. wotf015 He seems like a nice guy. I'm sure that takes a lot of time. What does an acceptance note look like? I'm beginning to think I will never learn the answer from first-hand ...

I just signed up for that so hopefully that will work as well. (they do ask for contributions which I partici...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 36

I have a question regarding these things, and if it's been answered somewhere then feel free to give me the hose again. If you get an R on a technicality, is there any way to know this? This might be completely wishful thinking, but I recently became aware of the Microsoft Word meta data it include...

Last night I felt pretty devastated about my R because it was the first story I wrote after the babies were born, but you know what? That story was kind of dark for WotF. It may do better elsewhere. On another note, we gave the babies oat cereal in their bottles for the first time last night and th...
