Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Thanks all. I've started to submit the story to other markets - so wish me luck! I struggle with short story ideas, so it's a exciting day when I feel like I have a good one. I will admit that the one I submitted that got finalist was the best one I've written. I so admit/envy folks that can write a...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Thanks all, I really appreciate the support. The night I got the call was such a rollercoaster. I was trying to rescue a street kitten that had been stuck in a garage storage unit when Joni called. I was ecstatic to get the news (and am crazy on edge to find out the results), but the kitten passed a...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Wow. Update. I now have THREE good friends as finalists this Q2. Elizabeth Chatsworth just announced. Dave referred her to me for some editing work, how we first met. I have never had three friends in the running before. One at best. This is incredible! I want all three IN! May the best women win! ...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Thanks Wulf Moon! I added more elements up front in a way that I hope made it clear stuff was coming without giving everything away. I guess we'll see! Hopefully, we can meet up at a future Gala. Glad you liked my dress. Not sure I'll ever be able to top that!

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Working on a story I think I can get in before the deadline, but I'm a bit concern about the opening. Much of the supernatural stuff doesn't happen till later in the story, but I know the judges need to know right away that these stories are sci-fi/fantasy. Any tips on how much to foreshadow? How to...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

I haven't been here in awhile, but I have been working on a new story. Now I am concerned it might be too dark. Any advice on how dark is too dark? It's a fantasy horror piece, but I think the ending is optimistic. I think that as long as the ending is good, the judges won’t really care about how d...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 36

I only submitted one story I'd consider funny, and it was really more murder mystery with a wacky dose of satire. Earned me an honorable mention. Also, where do people draw the line between satire and comedy, or is there one? I adore Pratchett, and while I think his work is extremely funny, I also t...

Since the Q1 results needed extra time, perhaps Q2 will also take a while? I will try to practice patience. Sadly, it is not something I excel at.

I'm not sure I understand. What is the problem with posting details of our stories here so long as we submit them anonymously to the contest?
