Re: SUPERSTARS Writing Seminar

Is there anywhere on the site that shows what specifically the scholarship covers? Is it purely registration? The craft class / add-on? I assume hotel and travel are not included, but I can't find anywhere that specifies.

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 36

Anyone else out there like I am? I make the first 3/4 or so of a story shine, meticulously crafting every word and description, but then I tend to peter out at the end, resulting in a lackluster ending. What a horrible way to destroy a nice story! While making the first 3/4 shine is wonderful, I im...

Joni's 4th Quarter reminder said we'd have Q3 results in the next couple weeks. That was last Tuesday. So possibly some results by the end of next week or so. :)

Congrats. Those are worth their weight in gold. An NYT bestselling author has read your story and has told you what it needs to make it sing. I just sold a semifinalist to a wonderful market because I followed Dave's advice in his critique. You don't have to share your critique, but if you see some...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

The recommendation for my story was to take another pass or two to heighten the emotions although Dave also said that he thought it was perfectly publishable as is. I tend to think of myself as an angsty writer to begin with so that might tell others about the level of emotion you can include in a ...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Any other semi-finalists waiting on their critique or is it just me? I tried following up and no response but...

Re: Discussion: Q2, Volume 36

Congratulations to all those who placed! For those who did not - don't base your whole value as a writer on the results of this contest. This is a market like any other, and your results are the judgment of one, maybe two, people. Don't base the entire value of your story, or your ability, on their...

Hi all – What are your thoughts on closing off a character arc for one of my secondary characters. I don’t mind sharing here, because this is part of a full novel/not WOTF story… and I’m interested to hear everyone’s perspective on this. My character is a dad whose daughter was killed years ago. If someone submits their Q4 this coming week, they might even have three in queue. It's official. Just submitted Q4, so I'm in for all 4 quarters this year, and in for 3 quarters at the same time. Not sure if I should proud of that, or a little embarrassed that this opportunity worked as motivation...

Thinking for Quarter 4 I'm going to give a go at fantasy/horror. I feel a bit nervous about it although it doesn't cross the line with violence or gore. I'm hoping it's a good mash-up. I suppose I'm only posting this to be sure I'm not a crazy person for trying to go this route. Come on, Tracy! Pull...

Q3 entry is in. HOORAY! :)
I took a shot at reworking my SHM, since Joni had 3 separate messages encouraging us to polish and resubmit -- took it as a sign.

To make sure the universe stays in balance, I also wrote a new piece that I think is good enough to polish up and use for Q4. OOO-RAH!!!
