Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Sending socially distanced and acceptable hugs and/or fist bumps through the screen. ;) Don't forget the elbow bump. I may have had the worst Sept. of my life last month. On the 3rd the virus invaded my house. My wife was back to normal in about a week but I'm just recovering my ability to think cl...

Congratulations, Kentagions and ajschultz6, you're amazing. First time here and you got an HM! Well done. I'm at HM #6, but I expected that when I turned it in. Onwards and upwards!

Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets

I'll be trying to go through and provide crits on everything that's been posted soon. However, I had a few minutes, and wanted to take a crack at Wulf's latest assignment about opening lines: First, the opening line from "A Different Kind of Place," by Tobias S. Buckell: After the zombie ...

Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets

Here's my attempt at the previous exercise, writing your own first three paragraphs: "Electric desert" Eugenia was sailing alone through the sea of ghosts. No one could have predicted such a turn of events--not her husband or kids, certainly not the island's Mothers. Reaching above her he...

Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets

Ok, this was an idea I noodled with a while back. This doesn't work as well as what I have in the full length story, but I still enjoyed playing. LOL "I didn't mean to do that," Evie said, watching the last unicorn bleed out while Lucky circled overhead on leathery wings. "Niiiccce. J...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

I'm feeling a great sense of relief about that now! I was starting to feel like this would slip and not make the Q, because without that feeling right, I didn't want it to push it out. But now, I think I have a handle on it at last. Time to actually go and write a few words! Well done, DoctorJest! ...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Voice of the MC and the story as a whole are established in the title, which is also hooky because what the heck is a Moon Dawdler. 1st paragraph gives gender, age, more voice, which is so infectious it stepped into what I wrote after I reread the story. Her appearance is vivid, her disability is on...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

Can anyone recommend resources for upskilling my line-by-line prose? I’m not looking for anything on spelling/grammar (that’s a whole other kettle of sardines); rather, I’m looking for strategies to make my prose flow effortlessly, while still retaining a bit of vibrancy. I already read my stories ...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

I'm working on the next quarter's story and could use some fresh eyes. It's hovering around 2500, which is a different problem than my norm. I tend to go WAAAY over. I started this with a Wulf Moon KYD and it's like the thing needs a shot of growth hormone. Does anyone have time?

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

Wow. What a day. I wrote 1500 words, worked out all the major plot issues, and completed my first draft of my entry. Now. I am no Heinlein or Hubbard. I have to edit and revise. A lot. I 'm a plodder for sure and stories don't come out my brain in good shape. I think it has decent bones though. :) ...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

Swift knows, but just for public accountability, I wrote at least 2 short stories of 3000 words and submitted to WotF and elsewhere. I've written one already that might be my Q4, but I plan to write at least one more. I'm almost done with the first draft of my scifi novel, as well, and am still que...

You read one of mine, I don't recall which. LOL And it did get an HM, so I can't say you were off. Just that there were better stories neither of us have read. And your critique was really helpful, so without it, I might not have got the HM. I just hope I can get to the next level soon.

HM for me as well. Not the first one, but I think Dave mentioned my story in his Monday article. Both an ouch and a learning experience, but I already suspected I should have trimmed more. Q2 was my first time entering the contest so I'm enjoying the veterans of the contests insights! I got HMs for my first two entries to the contest and am awaiting Q2 results with interest as the story I submitted for it I think is better than the first two. Watch me get my first rejection now... Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!

BTW, I've looked at a few of your exercises in this thread (got a story or two out of them), but I've never seen where you sign up and jump in. Is there a good place to start? What are the rules/expectations? If I have to read every response to understand, I won't do it and I want to.
