Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Hello... How did you get a published author to critique your story? Hi LoyalRam, I sent a Private Message to an author who had friended me on Facebook and who I follow and I had read his book. I asked politely if he had time, how much his fee was, and told him that it was for WoTF 2nd qtr, vol 37. ...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

So where will the award ceremony be in 2021? I wasn't aware of any plans to move the gala, but if they do I would vote for Pensacola. wotf007 I live here and that would make it easier to attend the function and meet all the judges and the support staff so I'm a little biased. Everyone should visit ...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

My first critique from a published professional has been received and I made multiple corrections and additions to my 2nd quarter story. Wulf Moon was right in telling us to ask a published author to critique our stories. The critique I received was spot on and pointed out glaring blank spaces in t...

I am revising two short stories in the nex few weeks, but I will be writing three other short stories this semester in a one on one class with my creative writing professor. I've been waiting to write this collection of stories for decades, and so I look forward to finishing them and moving on to ne...

According to this http://www.lulu.com/titlescorer/index.php - the title of my Q1 entry is going to win anything. Oh, well... Ha! I never knew there wa such a thing! It says my title has a 14.6% chance of selling, which may be worse than yours. Thank goodness that I have another chance with its bein...

I too recieved an automated reply from Joni Labaqui. I submitted a historical fiction piece with magical realism. It's the first of three historical fiction stories that I have written, with 3-4 more in the hopper. I would love to place in this contest, like everyone else, but I have a question. Ha...

Re: How to Get the Most From Critiques

disgruntled peony, your original post about recieving criticisms was wonderfully thought out and I enjoyed reading it. I have read most of the responses to your post by others and I did not see the different forms of critical responses mentioned at all. I am a 55 year old, former professional driver...

Re: Accents/Diacritics and Pinyin

I am fascinated by slang from the late Victorian and Edwardian ages, and I use a small amount of it for flavor. Yet, I've decided to attempt to speak consistently in that type of language is distracting and confusing to the reader. Just my opinion.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37

I submitted today, just under the wire. My story is about 4400 words, which seems a bit short compared to many of you. I've spent a lot of time refining it and so we'll see how it goes....Good fortune, everyone.

Re: Quarter 4 Writers and Illustrators of the Future Vol 36

I am worried that my story was disqualified. I read a requirement AfTER I submitted the story. It appears that no commercials or copyrighted material can be used in a story. I often use historical media to define the time frame of a story without bluntly saying "It's 1967."

My first post ever. I submitted a story a month or so ago. Have they already decided the winners? If so, is there a place to go to see a ranking of some sort?
