Have WOTF thought of this?

Umm...
With so many SF and Fs, have WOTF thought of publishing a second book? Maybe a monthly/bimonthly/quarterly book with the last year's stories. Something along those lines.

Would give new writers an added boost. And no doubt get more people entering.

Just a thought.

Re: Modern V old SciFi

By pre rendered scenes I assume you mean in game movies and the like? That could be true. But I'm yet to see in game playable graphics that would compare to a big film. Sorry. Actually the best game movies I've seen are the ones they used (?) To do with actual (big name) actors in them. C&C had ...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

Pick 100 random people off the street. Recollection of a particular video game ship will me near nil. Film or TV ships would rate higher, simple. I do suspect asteroids would be the most famous video game ship (are space invaders ships or aliens??), yet noone would probably recognise a triangle with...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

Video games in writing, how so? Here's a few for you that sneak through my net. Dang, must remember to mend that. SeaQuest Lexx Babylon 5 These get through as the 90s had some pioneering CGI going on. Enough to try it out, then say models are better. I'm not sure they heard the last bit though. It's...

Re: Publishing Hesitation/Fear?

The worst is not that a story is good and will eventually sell, it's the thought that's it's just rubbish and will never sell. I guess once you sell a few that must mostly go away. Don't put the cart before the horse. It's like worrying about what you'll do with your future lottery winnings. On the ...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

They are games, not ships. I could spew endless shows, films. Shrug. I guarantee you more people on the street could pick the TARDIS or Enterprise out of a line up. Besides, all those games seem pretty new. I think starcraft may have scraped the 90s. You need to give things time to mature with age, ...

Very helpful stuff. What about their placement. Predator, for example, seems like this. 1 Dutch 2 Jungle 3 Something is killing them that they must kill. "Or there will be no one left to gey to the damn chopper." This is about the half way point, when Anna finds the blood and the predator ...

Re: Music to write by

YouTube has the Conan soundtrack. Master and commander is good. Both film and soundtrack, alas it never got the sequels it deserved. Being a ship full off sailers of its time, I suspect it succumbed to modern unmentionables. Whether or not that's the case, it is a great pitty. Perhaps a tv show may ...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

Nonsense. I couldn't name any. Most people couldn't. Asteroids? I guess that's famous enough. But cooler than an eagle? I think not. More people know things from fiction, film or TV than computer games. Games typically capture a younger market, not keen on old stuff, then many may grow out of it. Tv...

The lamentations of the women of my enemies, once said enemies have been crushed and driven before me. PS It's from Conan. "What is best in life?" PPS That has a top notch soundtrack, by the way. I have painted by it. PPPS I don't listen to music while I write. Too distracting. Have jumped...

Re: 7 point help needed

Thank you both. There are stories that just...end. Sort of like opening a door and just stepping through. Surprise, surprise the Truman show is like this (the film at least). I guess it depends on the number of characters? With one, or a similar group, you can just end it sometimes. However with a b...

Re: 7 point help needed

Thanks. I'll count that as a short story read. Very good. However, "The third try/fail cycle is where the character realizes they need to change in order to resolve the problem. This is where the B-line conflict (emotional growth) becomes the solution to the A-line conflict. If the character do...

Does anyone have links to 7 point examples, or can give them here, eg written as per films or famous books. I am also having a headache trying to figure out the three try fails. I guess that's just a guide and you can have more than three??? And what are the three exactly??? Is the final win or lose...

You can also fall into to hole of accidentally entering twice. Best to always enter near the end date, then you won't forget. If you enter near the start, by the end of three months, it would feel like you entered the previous quarter. Alternatively always enter at the start of the quarter, or at a ...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

CGI ones mostly. Your still going back 80s and 90s, Elysium probably 2010s? I guess it also depends on use. In Planet of the apes, the ship was just to get from A to crash. In Space 1999 the eagle was constantly used, so it had to be designed well, not just as a cool looking ship but for continual s...

Re: Modern V old SciFi

I find it sad that the Star Trek franchise never capitalised on their world war three. It explains the 60s technology beautifully. Even today it wouldn't take very many strikes at all to eliminate most if not all chip, screen, so on manufacturing. The internet is as vulnerable as anything, relying o...

Modern V old SciFi

This could be broader, but SciFi certainly seems appropriate. There are obviously differences between old and new stories. I enjoy a lot of older stuff, so is there anything wrong with it now? I've read some reviews, I won't go into them here. Yeah, that's pretty much my point. Sorry if that's confu...

Good, now look for the security systems power supply. It should be separate from the main power metre, but in a similar steel box. The lock will trigger an alarm if you try to open it. Use the grinder and cut a four inch circular hole in the door, the centre of it being twelve inches down and five f...

Read an interesting Asimov's about a duck in a plastic bubble in a typhoon. I'd mention the kid playing with duck pop, but wouldn't want put anyone off. I think the 4 page length sucked me in. The ending was a bit contrived, but otherwise ok, I guess.

Why do you call the 80s cartoon fantasy/SciFi in specific terms? I'm talking he-man, ThunderCats and the like. Lots of toys from cartoons and not. Typically based around some Conan barbarian type often on another planet with man/animals and some SciFi vehicles and weapons. Often with strong fantasy ...

In some ways it's even better than winning (I assume), as you aren't lumbered with the stigma of winning. It's more like you did it yourself, without having to win a competition, if you go on writing that is. You are actually asked to be in the book (I assume they are asked?), and that's a bigger th...

I read up on Mr Rogers recently.

Have you tried Bob Ross? The joy of painting? Worth a try. Everyone likes "happy little trees".

I'm currently painting on girls on bikes, not that I don't like trees, just not as much as Bob Ross.
