Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

R for me. I thought this story would either be a winner or rejected as it has a very strong political message that would put off Trumpers. I feel like it'll be easy to get traction in Australian markets though.

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37

After nothing but HMs, I got my first R this quarter. I kinda suspected that it'd get an R as it was a superhero story more than fantasy or sci-fi which I guess isn't really what this contest is after. Still, glad I took a risk and wrote this story that had been bubbling in me for a while.

No. On one hand, I want to follow-up. On the other hand, I know Joni will be very very very busy right now. ...On another note, I hear we'll have trans-tasman travel back by Christmas. (for those who can afford $4k controlled isolation fees in each country) That's waaaaaay out of my price range. .....

Glib Wizard, the British would be appalled at a reference to "fanny pack." It does not mean the same thing in the United Kingdom. "Fanny" refers to a part of the female anatomy. The best reference book on the subject is The U.K. to U.S.A. Dictionary British English to American E...

Not being American comes with a certain disadvantage when it comes to word choice. Just found out a word I used in my story has racist connotations in the USA, yet in Australia it's seen as innocent. =(

Yeah, I'm getting the applications are closed message as well. I shot Joni an email... but should I have attached my story to that email or should I email it to her now to be safe? It's 1AM in Melbourne and I'm tired, but I have no idea what time the contest closes in my time so I always just try to...

This double volume gala is going to be a night to remember, as Bilbo said. Who will be joining Leah Ning and Kate Julicher from this group? Sorry, I know lurkers aren't meant to post in this thread, but this caught my eye and I just wanted to clarify (because I hadn't heard it mentioned anywhere el...

Re: Wulf Moon on Nebula Award's recommended reading list!

Thanks, all. I'm happy SFWA people liked the story. Will it get enough votes to be on the actual Nebula ballot? We'll have to wait and see--the recommendation period is now closed and tallies are being done. In addition to the Nebulas, the next big one is the Hugo, which is currently ongoing. If yo...

Reading all of the reports from Superstars has me wanting to go next year! Thanks for the advice everyone! I emailed Joni with a word doc version, fingers crossed it’s accepted. If not I guess I’ll enter it into Q3 or Q4. I spent so much time reading the formatting and can’t believe I glossed over something as important as file type. Curse my workplace in making saving eve...

Eeek. I saw that it's meant to be .doc .docx or .rtf right after submitting a PDF! Shouldn't have been so hasty. I guess I'll just reply to the auto-confirmation from Joni with the attached .doc and hope I'm not disqualified. =(
