Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

Best of luck to everyone who entered! I’ve submitted mine on 3/21, but now I’m wondering if I should’ve revised it a few more times before entering...anyway, I still have quarter three to look forward to :)

Re: Do the judges receive print or electronic copies of the stories to review?

Electronically, i guess, if you submit an electronic file. On the eighth page of the blog, in the article "Why You Only Got An Honorable Mention", paragraph 2 line 1, Dave Farland says "Right now on my computer, I have a story up." See this link: https://www.writersofthefuture.co...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37

To all you twitchers out there, stop twitching. Q1 will be delayed. I just finished talking to Kary English. The current pandemic has caused problems across the board, slowing everything down. So go back to getting your Q2 in and figure out what you will write for Q3. Best use of your mental energi...

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

I haven't been here in awhile, but I have been working on a new story. Now I am concerned it might be too dark. Any advice on how dark is too dark? It's a fantasy horror piece, but I think the ending is optimistic. I think that as long as the ending is good, the judges won’t really care about how d...

Re: Manuscript format question

Thank you very much, Liz :) I’ve got another question about word count, does two words linked by hythons count as one or two words? Compound words count as one. Father-in-law is one word, not three. But I suspect you're worrying too much. My count when I post to Scribophile is different to my count...

Re: Manuscript format question

Hello guys! I’m having a bit of problem figuring out when I should add an extra double space between paragraphs. From what I have read in the anthologies, (35&34) most authors add an extra double space when switching scenes, while others never do. I’m a bit confused about this... Also, should I ...

Re: Manuscript format question

You want both your title and page number in the right hand corner of the header. Otherwise, I think you've more or less got it? The only things you need to avoid including in your submission for WotF are your name in the header, your byline, and your address/e-mail. I usually write my prose in prop...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Mornin' all. My name is Warren Clyde, I live in Montreal, Quebec. I have always wanted to write, even so far as to order course info on writing way back when I was a little tyke. Re: Do the judges have a preferred style?

My general recommendation is: Write what you love. My more specific recommendation is: Write what you love, first and foremost, but checking out the last few anthologies to get an idea of the sorts of things the judges have accepted in the past is probably not a bad idea. Some judges have a hard pr...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37

Hey everyone, I submitted my first story last December to WoTF for V37 Q1. Although I'm in the midst of writing a novel, the wait for this short story result is starting to get very exciting (and dare I say distracting? Oh, look what I found: wotf060). It's a thrill though. Now whenever I get tired...
