Post Deadline Critique Swap (aka no rush needed)

I jammed my last entry in at the last moment and didn’t have time to get it critiqued. I like the story and don’t think it will win because it was a first draft but would like to enter it again in the future... willing to swap critiques. My piece is 5k long.

Thanks in advance!! wotf007

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 38

Jeez Louise... you guys are fast.

I got 300 words done so far today and feel great about that!! For me the first 1000 words are always the hardest (lots of fretting over names and places and that first sentence).

Re: Goals four V.38!

My goal is to submit a new unique story each quarter and learn one thing new about writing with each piece. I officially started writing last November (didn’t know about WOTF till February) and when I started it would take hours to get two or three sentences written... three days ago I wrote 1000 wo...

Re: Discussion: Q4 Volume 37

I caught a cold and was quarantined for fear of COVID so I cranked out 3,500 words in the last two days. I read it out load one time and then sent it in.... no proof readers :(... I was gonna take a break this quarter because we moved (which always takes a ton of time on both ends - packing and then...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome Brad, Daniel, Steve and any others I missed!! Boy this place seems to be growing... you take a few weeks off to try to polish your entry and return to a dozen new future friends. So glad to meet you all. Can't wait to share pieces with y'all. Seriously recommend the story critique thread (he...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37

Like Pumpkin said--don't sweat it if you're moving at a different pace. Try not to stress if things don't go according to plan; for me, at least, this year seems to defy all attempts at planning. Just do what you can, and know that simply finding time to put in the effort right now is a win. wotf00...

Re: First timer needing Critique for WOTF piece

To All: Thank you so so much for all the offers of support. I ended up sending it to Rueben and he responded with a full critique before I even woke up the next day... then life happened (we sold our house and found a new house to buy and are moving on the 30th of this month (yeah for timing)- assum...

First timer needing Critique for WOTF piece

Greetings Forumittes: I recently finished editing my first draft for my third quarter entry. Anyone wanna swap critiques? Not exactly sure how to do this but let’s meet by the watering hole in the middle of the night!! Secret handshake must include two slaps, one rock pound, and at least one spirit ...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome Simon! Quite a resume so far. I only recently decided to start pursuing my lifelong dream of writing (about a year ago - and only discovered WOTF about 4 months ago) so your way braver than me (I'm 38 years old)!! Between 15-18 I was too worried/focused on getting to college and finding the ...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37

Just finished first draft of my Q3 entry!! I was so excited I had to share.

Now on to my first out load reading (starts putting on body armor to prepare myself for all the gut punches my own fists may try to deliver to my core as I discover all the errors)

Real Life Research Helpers

Greeting Writers - Most of us either need to research or interview expert individuals at some point, right? So I had this crazy thought after reading a few writer bios from the WOTF volume I’m currently reading... why don’t we help each other get first hand knowledge by gleaming it from each other? ...

Professional Editor for WOTF piece?

Greetings Writers - I was wondering if any of your got any of your quarterly pieces professionally edited before submitting them. I’m new to this game but I have noticed that a lot of the previous winners thanked spouses for editorial work... what if we don’t have wonderful editorial spouses? Or ama...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome Monica! I’m new here as well but I do know the best way to determine what type of story might work is by reading many of the past winners. If you go to the main writers of the future website you can sign up and receive a free electronic copy of one of the yearly volumes... this will have qui...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Greetings Writers - I'm a newer writer (about 1 year old) and have been looking for a good group to help support my writing goals. Recently I decided to research some of my favorite authors to see how they got there big break and guess how? That's right!! WOTF.... so what did I do? I bought 8 issues...
