Re: Success!
Finally got a chance to read it. Reminded me of Lies of Locke Lamora (which I really like so this is only meant as a compliment) with the heist and fantasy aspect.
I especially liked this description:
"...Wrinkles pressed on wrinkles ..." Congratulations again!

Re: First vs Final Draft
I planned to share an early draft of the story if I ever won WotF, but my stories aren't changing all that much from first to final draft these days. I did share the first and final draft of a poem that was published in a local anthology recently. I planned to write up why I made certain changes, b...

Re: First vs Final Draft
You can see Anton Rose's winning story on Scribophile and the crits and changes he made in response there. You have to join, but you don't have to pay. It's a great story. Exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks! I like scribophile and already have an account there too. Thanks to the rest of you also ...

Re: First vs Final Draft
Honestly, probably not. People tend not to put their WIPs in public places in order to preserve the story's first rights, and I certainly don't like showing off older versions of published works. The only way I could think of something like this happening is to be really active in crit trades, and ...

First vs Final Draft
Does anyone know where I can find a first draft (or even later draft) of a story vs the polished/published version of it? Maybe an HM or SHM story that eventually got edited and won or went up the food chain (to F)?
If they're WotF stories all the better but really anything would do.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 38
SO then, it could be argued that consistently maintaining a particular performance level is in actuality an improvement? Hahaha I like the way you think! A very optimistic way of looking at it (and probably realistic too). As Moon said, I don't think that short would ever make finalist today. Heck,...

My story "The Wizard, the Watcher, and the Waif" will be published Friday at https://nightshiftradio.com/storytellersprint. Enjoy! Congratulations!!! Can't wait to read it in 2 days. You mentioned this was a previous HM? How much changing did it undergo before its now polished diamond sta...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 38
Thanks, storysinger. I thought I had Volume 5 but on looking, it was 3. However, I found the story online: http://stobblehouse.com/arthome/stob/justdont.html I agree with Dustin - I can't see a winning story that short now. 350 words though? Maybe WriterGirl0426 has a chance! Thanks for the link, A...

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 38
It'll be another tight squeeze for me as I work on edits to the last few minutes before the deadline. Why has this become my norm now? For those of you who are like me and at this stage feel defeated with the manuscript, don't let it stop you from submitting. I don't think this story of mine will go...

Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets
Thank you for further commentary on it, Wulf! I hope I can one day make readers feel my character's pain in their hearts. It is very hard to do right (for me). I saw my explanation for the resolution of the story got cut off, must have gotten deleted or something during my pasting/editing process. A...

Top one is the one Reuben mentioned. It is very good. I always find my problem isn't with finding ideas but what to do with them after the fact. Answer? CONFLICT!

Re: Do you have tips for brainstorming?
I suggest listening to the WE podcast on brainstorming stories to see how they get from one idea to an actual story. If I find the episode I'll edit this and link to it. It's not just brainstorming ideas but what to do with them once you have em.

Re: Experimenting with Exercises from Wulf's Super Secrets
Hope it's ok for me to pop in here with a different assignment. I decided to do the assignment Wulf posted in his secrets thread a little while ago, as I could use a reminder of all the secrets, and wanted to show support for his work. So here is my go at Muzik Man. I didn’t look too much at what ot...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRETS Workshop & Challenge!
Just popped in here to say thank you all. I got several rejections from Flame Tree before this story and my 1st ever submission there was such a big flub. It was on the precognition theme for the scifi genre and I wrote mine as fantasy (I blame the baby and sleep deprivation on this) :O I sent an em...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37
I haven't heard anything yet either AJZach and Brittany, et,al., note that no semifinalists have been announced. They hold those back briefly in case a finalist bows out or is disqualified. They will then pull one from the eight semifinalists to replace the finalist. So I’m guessing you’re one of t...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 37

Have since realized I did everything wrong with the rewrite so I expected a rejection but was mildly optimistic it would at least place. Congratulations to all those who placed and a...
