Re: Retiring a Piece - When to Call it Quits

How to Trunk: 1) Collect 10 rejections from suitable markets. If at least two of those rejections are personal, skip to step 3. 2) Reread story. If you would be embarrassed to see it in print, trunk. If not, go to step 3. 3) Return to step 1. Story with most rejections before Pro publication is &quo...

::sigh:: I am failure. I got another flash 1st drafted and subbed to Liberty Hall, but not else. Company on Saturday this weekend so nothing then and gotta cover for someone who hasn't been replaced yet at work for 3-4 weeks afterward. Maybe if I sell my family to the circus? wotf007 Any takers? Text to speech software (some free versions available for Apple products at least) is good for a final read out loud pass too. The mechanical voice really makes those nitpicky typos stand out.

I think it might be a side effect of being creative where other people can see you.

For me, writing a story I know will never see the light of day is a completely different experience.

Well, I didn't get very far. I did write a flash story for Liberty Hall, but . . . That's really not what I was going for. I might try again next Sunday.

Hello Everybody!

I'm going to try to do a Story in a Day challenge either this Sunday or Monday (see original post [outlining today]). If you're free, you're welcome to join me (post updates here!). If I finish the story I'll be looking for critique exchanges. =)

Yeah, ok, there is that minor detail of "writing" to do before submitting. Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong?

Based on my unscientific analysis (stalking their Grinder page), they seem to do second round rejections about every two weeks. If you're over 10 days or so and didn't hear back yesterday, it will probably be a couple weeks.

Also they changed their query time from 6 weeks to 8. wotf005

There are a lot of good ones, but "Schrödinger’s Hummingbird" by Diana Rowland from Vol 22 is my favorite. A non-standard, logical exploration of time-travel powers. And freaking heartbreaking.
