Re: Story Titling

I definitely agree that titles are an important part of the story because they set the tone and reader expectations for the story. I've seen hint fiction where the story wouldn't make sense or wouldn't have as much impact without considering the title. In many of those cases, the title is literally ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

The story I plan to submit this quarter is currently with Analog. I may or may not get it back in time. If not, I have plenty of other stories in the works.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

My story for this quarter is at Analog right now, and it's even money if I'll get it back in time.

If not, I guess I'll just have to send something else.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I've just heard that the Canadian anthology I have a story in--the Strange Bedfellows Anthology of Political SF--has been nominated for an Aurora Award. After having a brief dance around the room, something else occurred to me. That was my notorious Q1 v.29 hold pile story. wotf001 There is always ...

Re: WorldCon Roll Call

I will be there as well. I'm hoping the more popular kids (ahem...Martin) introduce me to editors so I can pitch my novel to them. Oh, Sean, I feel awful... Last night I learned of some essential, unexpected home repairs that may consume all of my discretionary funds for the year. Up until then, I ...

Re: Inscription Magazine

Nope, not a query; they just finally got around to getting back to me. They were having trouble getting through all their submissions, which is why it took so long to begin with, and I'd sent them an older story, so I was more interested in the new stuff I was writing than in following up on pending...

I always thought it simply looked bad if you submitted the same story twice, like you can't take "rejection" for an answer. So I never have sent a story twice, except to WotF, where my stories are of course anonymous so there's no possibility of David remembering my name as that annoying ...

Thanks for the wonderful insight and advice, Mike. I also want to second that the best way to understand slush is to read it. Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

If this thread ever dies, I fear that it may collapse under its own gravity into a micro black hole.

wotf006 If we keep it going long enough, maybe we can open a wormhole into an alternate version of reality in which the contest publishes children's cookbooks written by San Diego dentists.
