Re: Success!

Digital SF is, in fact, a pro market. Just because SFWA doesn't qualify as such yet doesn't mean squat except if you want to be an SFWA member using the sales. Digital SF pays 5 cents a word. That's pro enough for me :) (Also, my story is in this as well. Wee.) It feels pro for me, too. Certainly t...

Brag time! Therefore I Am - Digital Science Fiction Anthology 2 is now available on Kindle. Other ebook formats will be available this week (if all goes according to plan), and a POD version later in the month. Therefore I Am contains stories by forum regulars steffenwolf, izanobu, and yours truly, ...

Let me make a plug for some of the old time radio shows at The Internet Archive. I drove from Michigan to San Diego and back with those for company. Dimension X and CBS Radio Mystery Theater were my favorites.

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Definitely helpful! In fact, I passed the info to a buddy of mine. Those fee guidelines will help him budget for art in his business. He knows they're only guidelines, and rates will vary a lot; but that's still better than no guidelines. If his budget is $300 and the guidelines say it's a $3,000 jo...

Interesting that this thread should "wake up" today. Last night, I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Laura Ford at the premier of her exhibit at Frederick Meijer Gardens . The exhibit is called "Actual, Factual Fables"; and every sculpture I looked at just seemed like somebody ...

Looks like I might be joining y'all in Digital Science Fiction . No contract yet (so there's plenty of time for it all to go very, very wrong), but I got an acceptance note overnight for one of my stories about colonizing Venus. Wait'll you see that contract, kyle. I doubt it will go wrong at all. ...

Wishing you either best of luck (or the actorly 'break a leg') going all the way with your Q1 Finalist story ... but you are far wiser than I was to be working on Q3! Not my wisdom: it was Joni's! I was such a WotF newbie (I'm almost embarrassed to go into details), I honestly hadn't considered sub...

Welcome, kaigal! But don't think this is a contest only for science fiction! Fantasy is well represented in the contest as well. I don't have my copy of Volume 26 here to do a precise count; but I know the very first story in there was fantasy, and it was by no means the only one. Submit your best s...

soulmirror, if this is some clever ploy to distract me so I forget to submit for Q3, you'll need to post a lot more Irina pics. At this rate, I probably won't finish the one I wanted to submit (been stalled on the same scene for a month); but one of my favorites is currently not submitted anywhere. ...

more than enuff from me. Respectfully: no, I don't think it is. Some people, soulmirror prominent among them, have lamented how writer-heavy the forum is. I see his point, but that can't change unless illustrators take the time to change it. And I like to learn more about the illustrator side. In y...

Re: Success!

Congratulations, Annie! Which volume will the story be in? One thing I like about Digital Science Fiction: it's a monthly anthology, not a magazine. That matters with Kindle, because magazines operate under different rules there. In particular, magazines can only be delivered to actual Kindle device...

Thanks in part to the folks here encouraging me to keep trying, my short "The Night We Flushed the Old Town" has been accepted at Digital Science Fiction! It's a fledgling monthly anthology paying pro rates, so (if I understand correctly) this doesn't count as a pro sale yet, but will beco...

Nope, not colorblind. I haven't figured out the icons yet, but they seem unreliable. The thread "My e-mails for help probably got eaten." was showing (on my machine, at least) with a red icon, even though it hasn't had a new post since April 8, and even though I've read every post in the t...

Yes, the forum is "Forum for Writers & Illustrators"; but even here, the brand identity is very story-centric: The forum title is in relatively small font; but the big banner at the top of the page is all "Writers of the Future". Like the book, that's just what the brand iden...

soulmirror, All good points. Unfortunately, "Writers of the Future" seems to be the brand identity. And sometimes even the brand owners find that it's difficult to change brand identity once it gets fixed in the minds of the public. Before I had entered WotF, I never knew there was an Illu...

Forum Etiquette: Comic Strip Signatures

When I'm not writing fiction or writing code, I sometimes write a comic strip, And I sometimes like to use one of my panels as a signature in emails and such. Before I do that here, I thought I'd check whether there's some custom or unwritten rule regarding this. I know on some forums in the past, s...

Thanks! But please, call me Martin. I use my full name for business identity purposes, but I freak out when people call me "Mr. Shoemaker" in non-business circles. UML isn't really technical at all; but since it came out of the technical realm, people see it that way. It's really a graphic...
