Re: Form vs Personal Rejection

Wet blanket note... Mike Resnick likes to point out, "The operative word in 'personal rejection' is 'rejection'."

Optimistic note... Mike also points out that tells you not very much, and keep trying. I think he said one story took 17 years to sell.

But it sold!

Re: Why Do You Write?

I think you have to be very careful when you look at speed-to-market and the business side of writing. There are lots of pro writers who use ghostwriters to help them publish book after book after book. So when you see pro authors cranking out two or three or four novels a year, chances are good th...

For one, I can no longer find the link that shows all new posts and comments as my front page. Found it! It's under the Quick links menu in the upper left: http://forum.writersofthefuture.com/search.php?search_id=unreadposts . It used to be under the thread/post list. I'll leave it where it is.

SHM. That rounds out my set of responses from WOTF with at least one in each category, except, of course, "Winner". Maybe next year! A blackout bingo! That's amazing. Has anyone else ever achieved this? (I knew there was a reason I've been collecting "R"'s - I wanted to make sur...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35

Started my first draft of a story, yesterday. Got 500 words in, got stuck, went to work, and realized I was beginning the story too early while I was halfway through my shift. Had to scrap almost everything I wrote, this morning. Even so, I've gotten started! And I'm (GASP) pantsing my first draft....

Goodbye, Publisher's Word Count!

From David on Facebook: The Contest is now officially using word processor count, NOT publisher's word count.

Re: Fixing the place up

Avatars were limited to 6K, also to 100x100.

Evil Martin bumped that to 16K and 180x180, and he allowed remote avatars.

Re: Fixing the place up

The avatar limit is set to 6KiB, which is so tight I can't upload a 180x180 JPG because it is 6,968 bytes i.e. 6.8KB. Might be worth easing up on it a little bit? Bandwidth isn't that expensive anymore wotf001 (this may be why my avatar has disappeared from my posts altogether, even though it still...

Fixing the place up

So as long-time members know, there was a dark period. New users couldn't get their confirmation email. Existing users couldn't recover their passwords -- not even us admins, so I was locked out. Brad fixed this by basically reinitializing the site to defaults, and then installing updates. All hail ...
