Avatars were limited to 6K, also to 100x100.

Evil Martin bumped that to 16K and 180x180, and he allowed remote avatars.

The avatar limit is set to 6KiB, which is so tight I can't upload a 180x180 JPG because it is 6,968 bytes i.e. 6.8KB. Might be worth easing up on it a little bit? So as long-time members know, there was a dark period. New users couldn't get their confirmation email. Existing users couldn't recover their passwords -- not even us admins, so I was locked out. Brad fixed this by basically reinitializing the site to defaults, and then installing updates. All hail ...
