Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

Just a question: do you guys think it's better to submit much earlier rather than later? I'm feeling very confident about this story, and I have a niggling fear that if I've submitted it so very late Dave won't see it until the last few he reads, and by then he might have a good enough idea about t...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Yes, sorry, Dungeon Mastering. (Must remember that there are many dialects of Geek Speak...) Having a group of very smart close friends try to kill me for thirty years taught me to think on my feet, to build a story from what the characters do, not from what I want them to do. Bluntly: it taught me ...

Re: Chappy Fiction Time Travel Anthology

I didn’t think I would have an entry for the anthology, but ended up whipping off a flash piece before Christmas. Pretty happy with it actually. When I went back to the website, I saw the link for ‘Today I Am Paul’. A great story, Martin. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the finalist lists next y...

Re: Using art to inspire writing

My Blue Collar Space series started with a map. I planned (but never got to run) a RPG campaign set in the Lunar city of Tycho Under. I made an incredibly detailed map. Later I used that map as the setting for several stories, and those stories were the first Blue Collar Space stories.

Chappy Fiction Time Travel Anthology

Chappy Fiction (run by this year's Published Finalist, Zach Chapman) has announced an open call for a pro rate time travel anthology. V31 winners Auston Habershaw and I are the "anchor" authors, meaning our stories have been pre-accepted, but there's still lots of time to submit.

StoryBundle.com has a bundle of writing books in honor of NaNoWriMo . Runs for another 36 days. Name your price for 13 great writing books. If you pay $25, they'll throw in the 12 books from last year, so that's a dollar a book! This is not an endorsement. I've read some of these books, but by no me...

Re: Story Titling

Barfity barf. I'm realizing now that a title needs to be INTERESTING at the outset, and not just THEMATICALLY APPROPRIATE in retrospect. One of the major lessons in covers is that cover art isn't an illustration, it's an advertisement. It needs to grab the reader and drag them to the book. If it il...

Re: Story Titling

I have a mental block: without a title, I can't start writing. Oh, I might jot down a couple of paragraphs; but by the time I hit the Save button for the first time, I have to have a title. I'll sit there for hours until it comes to me. I generally like short titles. Four words make a long title for...

Hello everyone, I've been meaning to enter this contest for a while now, so here I am. I'm 18, from London, England, and I love creating stories that flow from just a simple concept into something special. I look forward to submitting my first entry. LM Welcome aboard, Leon! Good luck in the Contest.
