Re: Success!

I found out today that OSC's IGMS is going to publish the short story I sent them. It will be in either their July or Sept. issue. It's my first sale. wotf045

So anyone else want to start placing bets on when the next wave will go out? I'd bet we'll hear something by this Thursday.

I'm not holding out much hope for hearing anything this week. I think we could get a slew of results towards the end of next week though.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Here is how I tell if data is useful. 1) Did I get a phone call saying I'm a finalist? If not, go to step 2 2) I didn't win/have no chance of winning/am rejected See? Anyone else's data doesn't help ME. I either get a finalist call or I'm rejected. That's how the contest works. It might seem otherw...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I just checked the email, I'm still in. Of course there's still plenty of hours left today to take a direct hit and get blasted. I haven't received an email yet either, but I doubt the emails are over for the day. There are only two replies on duotrope, and one here. If all the results are really g...

I keep alternating between two thoughts:

Is it nighttime yet?

and

Please don't let me get an email!

This isn't healthy!

Re: Five Minute Rant

With my story now at Analog for 171 days, I sympathize. New game: who has the longest outstanding piece right now? Who has the longest cumulative wait for all stories right now? According to Duotrope, my longest has currently been out 200 days, and my total cumulative wait is 563 days. I know some ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

greenroom, This quarter is fracked because of the ceremony. Also consider, Q4 needs to be wrapped up with a hard deadline because of the show. Q1 does not. For Q3, I got my call 9 weeks after the close of the quarter. R's are still eeking out, no one else is notified, and we're a few days short of ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

This is a question for those of you who submitted by post last quarter: around when did the postal rejections/hm's go out? I know she read them last. I'm just curious how long a delay there was between her reading them, and then the response being mailed out.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

My main hope is that I find out about the next wave via duotrope/forums rather than an email since it seems only rejections are bein...

Critique exchange - Fantasy SS (5,500 words)

I finished a fantasy short story this last weekend that I have no distance from (I'm currently in the hate stage), and I'd love some feedback on it. It probably needs a ton of work, but I'd like to try to get it fixed up in time to submit for Q2. I'm willing to look at any story under 12K in return,...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I don't think they go by order received. I submitted on 12/30. A friend submitted on 12/31. He was rejected in the first round. It's either random, or levels of the sniff test. I suspect the latter as he didn't put in the sci-fi/ fantasy element up front. That's why I mentioned outliers -- though I...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I subbed on the very last day of the quarter, so my wait time at Duotrope is sitting at 76 days. Since all the rejections so far have been for people waiting 87+ days, I figure KD just hasn't gotten to my story yet. I also subbed (e-subbed) on the last day, and I also figure that -- though there ma...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Would anyone like to comment on the usual time elapsed from the start of the flood until we get to the HMs, semis and finalists? My bet is one month until all the responses go out and the finalists are notified, though it might be considerably longer before the finalists can own up to being notifie...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

I know of at least one person who posted a rejection to duotrope today under the mistaken impression that the blog post meant his December submission had been rejected. When he found out his mistake, he changed the rejection back to pending response. I'm wondering if maybe the other three duotrope r...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hello all, As per a pointer for delurkers in the Q4 thread, I figured I'd post something here. I'm a writer from California, and Q4 was my third time entering. My first two entries (Q2 and Q3) each netted an R, still waiting on the third, but I'm determined to keep entering. Hopefully, someday, I'll...
