Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

I'm taking one of his online classes which includes biweekly conference calls where he takes questions from all of his students. He mentioned it during today's call.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

As of today, Dave's still working on judging Q1, and has a hundred or so stories yet to read through that he's hoping to get through in the next week or so.

I haven't received a response yet either. She will usually respond, but with the awards ceremony this weekend, I'd expect not to here anything until next week.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

For those of us still waiting, I looked back through records and it appears that Q1 HM and higher results have come out in the last week of April for the last several years. True, but the workshop has also been a week later the last two years. Based on past years, I'm betting on Monday, April 17 fo...

I emailed Joni about this, and just heard back. She said she's working on it now, and it should be open again in a few minutes.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

Well, after screwing around with Mass Effect Andromeda all day, I'm finally cracking down and making some needed tweaks to my story before sending it off for a final critique.

Anyone else working on their entry this weekend?

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

The award ceremony is April 2nd. I'm guessing we won't hear much more back until after then. As of yesterday, Dave's still in the middle of his 2nd pass, and expects it to be another week or two until he completes that. So unless there's a second round of rejections yet to go out from the first pas...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 34

Technically, I'm still in as well, although I didn't even bother to enter this submission on the grinder since I have so little faith in it. I think it could be a great story one day, but it needs a major revision first. Subbed on the 31st of December. I'm much more excited about the story I plan to...

And Greenroom, she needs to crow big time, too. The results for the IGMS readers' poll are in--and my story "Sojourn for Ephah" (which was also a finalist in WotF) took second place! Second place to none other that "The Butcher of Londinium"! Congrats, Greenroom! Thanks, Marina!...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I keep seeing references to Codex and IGMS. What is the connection? (I know what both are, just wondering what the connection is). I'd hazard the following guess: One of the ways to qualify for Codex is to attend certain workshops. I'm not sure of the full list of them, but I know OSC's Bootcamp is...

Re: Five Minute Rant

IGMS has this weird fasttrack submission option--where if you've been to the Orson Scott Card Boot Camp Workshop, you go into a different queue and your story is read faster. Most rejections on Duotrope are in the 32-36 day ball park, but occasionally there's a response at 5-9 days. The short respo...

Hey Strycher,

195 days, but there was a re-write request and other delays. It's an outlier for IGMS.

Congrats Nick!

My acceptance from IGMS (for the story currently up there) came at 236 days. Also an outlier.

Re: Is this a 'wandering' opening?

I would be interested in this too. Throughout the discussion on this thread, I was thinking that the prologue to A Game of Thrones was wandering, but when I went back to reread it, I noticed that there is a lot of dialog. The very first sentence is dialog. Would that preclude wandering or can you w...

So, last quarter there were 88 HMS, 1 SHM, and 6 Semi-Finalists (unless I miscounted on the HMS).

Isn't that less Semi's than usual?
