Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

So, last quarter there were 88 HMS, 1 SHM, and 6 Semi-Finalists (unless I miscounted on the HMS).

Isn't that less Semi's than usual?

One of those 40 lines looks to be a Q1 personal rejection (given how many days out it was). But 39 is still huge! I now think a third of the responses must have been sent out yesterday.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Filing this here, hoping someone will have an answer for me: I've asked to join Codex (writer's forum/workshop thingy, that you have to have either A) 1 pro sale, B) an established agent, or C) have attended an audition only writers workshop to join). I feel that's kind of a success, if I get in, s...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

The one response on Duotrope in the last 30 days looks so sad and lonely. I think they are waiting until June 3rd, so all the listings will be SHM and up. wotf010 Well, that won't happen now. Someone just posted a 66-day form rejection on duotrope. It would be a very long wait for the new one to fa...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Here is how I tell if data is useful. 1) Did I get a phone call saying I'm a finalist? If not, go to step 2 2) I didn't win/have no chance of winning/am rejected See? Anyone else's data doesn't help ME. I either get a finalist call or I'm rejected. That's how the contest works. It might seem otherw...

With my story now at Analog for 171 days, I sympathize. New game: who has the longest outstanding piece right now? Who has the longest cumulative wait for all stories right now? This is a question for those of you who submitted by post last quarter: around when did the postal rejections/hm's go out? I know she read them last. I'm just curious how long a delay there was between her reading them, and then the response being mailed out.

Critique exchange - Fantasy SS (5,500 words)

I finished a fantasy short story this last weekend that I have no distance from (I'm currently in the hate stage), and I'd love some feedback on it. It probably needs a ton of work, but I'd like to try to get it fixed up in time to submit for Q2. I'm willing to look at any story under 12K in return,...
