Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 34

Yesterday I cut 500 words from my story.
I'm a putter-inner, not a taker-outer.
Feels strange, like, where did the words go?

I dig today's DSF story by Mr. Matt Dovey.
Nice role reversal. Makes you think.

June 20?

Received this global e-mail from Joni. Is it a typo?

"The 3rd Quarter deadline for the Writers of the Future Contest is just around the corner (June 20, 2017)"

If you win here, and your story is published elsewhere in the interim, your story will be disqualified.
Not worth it.

I didn't win, but got an email asking if I would like the story to be held for possible anthology inclusion (Joni did try phoning, but we've moved since December).

So, fingers crossed for a win before then, eh.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q2 - Volume 34

I'm finding it so hard to write this quarter! I've been experimenting with short short stories (usually mine are 10,000 plus words) and fantasy this quarter, which I've never tried before. Consequently, I've had two stories get ripped apart on Critters. So...yeah, not feeling great about my writing...

Howdy Llalah.

One of my favorite things about seeing new board members (and in this case, a pleasant flood of new board members) is that any new name, anyone can reach finalist at any time.

Just like Jeremy!

So I'm glad to meet ya. All of ya.

Re: Contest Eligibility

I believe it's "upon publication of your 4th (dis)qualifying pro pub". Not your 3rd. This is an important distinction, and I'd say worth a follow up e-mail. If you sub on Dec 31, and your 4th pro story is pubbed Jan 1, that entry counts, but you can not sub on Jan 2. Again, this is my unde...

I can do 1000, but more than that, I'd prefer to do a full ex.

So I'm down for 450, or 1k.

PM me if that's the most you can do.

Inky, Welcome, and congrats! Let me suggest not giving any hints as to which story is yours. Granted, your user name likely isn't your real name, but it's still better not to have any suggestions, because you might say x or y and might affect a judge. Granted, I believe Mike Resnick is the only judg...

Re: Introducing the New Illustration Workshops in 2017

Would love to see more illustrator posts! I've seen the winners' winning art on FB and am dumbfounded by it. Brad, There seems to be a 6kb limit on the avatars. That and the usual 100x100px. However, Jeremy and I uploaded a 3kb pic at 50x50px and still got the same error. So the 6kb limit doesn't seem to be the issue. I'll do some more troubleshooting later on to see if I can narrow this down. Meanwhile, t...

I've seen winners with "chapters" that are just listed as numbers, but I get queasy when I see them. I don't know about the judges. Personally, I stick to the " * " break between scenes. A short story "should" only have scenes and scene breaks. If it has chapters, it ma...
