I can handle one that short as well.
If you don't mind getting it back 3/31, I can be done by morning. Maybe 9am. Up to you.

Re: Discussion: Q2 Volume 37

I'm in with my 50th entry! wotf045 Awesome!! As for signing in anew, I have a user name and password which brings me to the screen where I type in all my info. It's kinda the same. I think signing up gets you on the mailing list. Some have, in the past, complained about this. They say, I just want ...

Re: Do the judges receive print or electronic copies of the stories to review?

In the past we mailed stories. Then they opened electronically. Some did that, some mailed. Now, while mailing is an option, most submit online. Stories don't get printed out *. Dave prefers e-copies. *one quarter there was a problem with the submission engine. People e-mailed their stories to Joni ...

Nice. Martin subbed on the first day for many quarters. Although I think he did that so he would be in before pro-ing out. He won on his final allowable entry. wotf013 My Q3 is mostly written, but it's a mess. I desperately need eyes on it to say the WTF I've been hearing in my own mind for so long....

Re: Manuscript format question

I believe margins are 1" top, left, bottom 1.5" right.
This is a throwback to paper subs needing a little more space for reader notations. Now it probably helps keep 250 words per page, etc.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Wulf, I'm thinking the amount of dedication and talent can be defined on a sliding scale. While I can't surmise at others' talent levels, I'm certain mine is pretty low. I just have hours and hours of dedication. Sadly, they are spread out over decades instead of focused or I would likely have been ...

Re: Flash fiction critique swap?

I don't have anything short to trade at the moment, but I'll have a look. I was a first reader at Every Day Fiction for several years. I tend to read that way: character, story not vignette, etc. If that's OK, send me a PM and I'll follow with my e-mail address.

In the full editor and preview there's one drop down box in the formatting section above the text window. It says normal. Click it and you get options. I like starting the next quarter each time. I try to do it on the first day of the final month of the previous quarter... This gives us 4 months for...

Re: Use of italics for emphasis

I used to have a big problem with the overuse of italics. I'd have several on each page in dialogue, and huge blocks of italicized text for characters' memories and thoughts. I still use a few, but I had to consciously focus on weeding them out. I think I was emphasizing the proper words, but it wa...

Re: Do the judges have a preferred style?

I've heard it said many times that this contest values originality the most. There are plenty of stories that fit no genre. Living Rooms is a great example. Maddy Dune is another. Is it fantasy because of spell casting? But it's in this world... The key is that it's speculative. Original Speculative...

Re: Use of italics for emphasis

Take this example from a published novel - ' I will not be nervous around him ' - If I had any emphasis, I'd put it only on the not, so I stumble. In this example, the emphasis is only on the not. It's a double negative in regards to the italics. As for me, I love italics, but try to limit them to ...
