All R, no HM?

This is me offering to read three Q3 stories - all from folks who have received nothing but rejects, and are still looking for their first HM. Here's what I ask in return: Post your willingness to participate below. (Or if you wish to remain anon, PM me and I will post that a slot has been filled.) ...

(Paraphrased) As long as the page numbers are there, you are fine... Just make sure next time you include it.

Whew.

Still, don't be like me folks. Uh, follow the simple instructions. wotf013

p.s. I'm still going to blame this if I get rejected. wotf019

Re: Q1 Volume 29

I did e-mail Joni. I agree with the leniency of the SMF, but this is a rule. I'm hoping it's more of a guideline. The word *must* is what gets me. wotf018 Even if it's not a DQ, will it count against me? Like, man, this slacker can't follow the basics... To the R pile with you! (Consequently, if I d...

Paper.
I haven't subbed in a long time. :(

I'll email Joni tomorrow. Still, if I get DQ'd I'd rather it be before it gets read. Maybe that explains some early rejects?

Re: Q1 Volume 29

So I'm perusing V.27 and I notice in the regs that I was supposed to number each page along with having the title on each page. Well I forgot the title. Anyone know if this negates my entry? If it is highly frowned upon by KDW? Or if it is a formatting thing and not that big a deal? I had a total bl...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

The color is all wrong on that sunrise opening... It's purple. Indeed describing a setting through a character's eyes is like sneaking plot in without the reader necessarily realizing it. Which is why long descriptions are generally considered bad. I have a character in a techno bar. He can't think ...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

Soulmirror, I wrote an alien creature called a targ. It's the centerpiece of a coming-of-age struggle for my MC.
I received feedback on that one... "Did you know a targ is a Klingon creature, pretty much exactly how you described it?"

So, to more properly identify with my MC for my Q1 story, who is bald, I shaved my head today. Ok... what really happened was I mistook the 3/8" attachment for the 7/8" one. wotf018 However, my MC really is bald, and the association seems to be working, so I may do this again in the future...

I will snail until they turn that option off in settings.

Formatting is a good reason, and so is my use of dark courier.
Another reason is last time I tried e, my story failed to submit. Just kept getting errors. If I e on the last day, and it fails, I'm out.

Re: Posting 450s from winning / semi-Fi / published stories?

If you are still trying to sell it to markets, yes.

I don't know what the limit is, but on the Orson Scott Card writing forums, they say it's the first 13 typed lines of the MS. (13 lines given the title and white space is the top of the page, the 13 lines the bottom, thus, only your first page.)

I have a brand new 450 ready for critique exchange. It's based on the idea from my previous story. (scrapped) I'd love for someone whose read my previous to take a look and let me know how they feel about the changes. However, I would also love to get some new eyes on it. Re: Q1 Volume 29

Strycher, I'm pretty picky about what I send in. It's like an interview. If I know I'm not going to get the job, I don't show up. No matter how well dressed I am. A reject on an idea means the idea has dead ended. So if I like the idea, I just skip a quarter and keep refining. It takes me a while to...

Complete rewrite coming. :( I may not make Q1 at all. And since I don't have a new idea burning a hole ...
