Re: WotF Volume 36 Pre-Order is Here!

I'm getting caught up. Reading V. 34 presently. Then on to 35 (although I did pick out one particular story that I just had to read right away. Wink, wink, nod, nod).
By the time this hits my mailbox, I shall be fully versed and ready for new stories!

Years back we did some logline swapping.
I'll create a new thread, because it's something that is always relevant.

Re: How to ensure your story is original enough (and not too original)?

... my stories always start with an idea that, quite possibly, no one has ever tried before (and then I have to figure out those pesky characters). sometimes I try to stuff more ideas into the story--with mixed results. Same! Like, literally. Idea first, plot, beginning/ending, then characters. wot...

Re: Is a fantasy story without an ending/solution that involves fantasy wrong?

Should I throw in the towel on this story? Absolutely not. Write the story how you want it written, get critiques from others. Do you love it? Submit it! This is one judge, and it's one avenue to which she may not like a story, or vote it down. There's 4-5 judges who may give it the top rank, and s...

Re: How to ensure your story is original enough (and not too original)?

I tend think of new/original as fringe/out there. Original for its own sake, or wacky word play.

But every once in a while, something new comes along, like Groundhog Day or Inception.

Re: Cursing and Sexual Situations in WOTF Stories?

Nudity is fine, I have found, if necessary(ish) to the story. It has enough history in SF and Fantasy so as to be part of the story, not gratuitous. Sex, however, is mentioned only in passing - enough to get the point across. "They entered the bedroom, and shut off the lights." No more tha...

Make sure they do not exceed 999 words. I am told anything at 1000 and over (Dustin, I believe I heard this from you), and with pro pay and the right circulation, they are counted as pro sales by WotF's standards. Why blow a chance to win WotF because you sold a story with one extra word? Cheers! W...

Mike did a lot of paying it forward, both with Galaxy's Edge, and here. Highly respected, widely published, a legend... and he stops by this forum to help us who are just getting started. While some professionals only deal with Those Who Already Are, Mike saw us as Those Who Could Be.

He has a Patreon... Since I'm not officially endorsing/requesting, etc, etc, I won't post a link. But if you feel so moved, it's under Diabolical Plots.
