Re: Posting 450s from winning / semi-Fi / published stories?

Here's my 450 from a story called "For Tomorrow We Diet." My comments are at the end. ETA: Good idea Strycher! This is a story I am NOT submitting to the contest because I deem the fit to be too poor. Not looking for crits or attaboys, just... "Here's something where I think the fit i...

Posting 450s from winning / semi-Fi / published stories?

This 450 idea has me quite intrigued. I don't know what the rules here will support, but for the sake of learning, I'd be quite interested to see the first 450 words or so, either privately or posted here for all, from the following types of stories. 1) Semi-finalists (since they can't resubmit), al...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

I'd just like to add my little concern on King's On Writing : he makes some comment about purgatory being filled with Chicken Soup for the Soul and Romance books... I kinda like romance books....you just have to pick the right ones just like any other book. PS nobody's allowed to diss Chicken Soup ...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

I'm thinking circles around myself here, so maybe someone can help... A frequent comment on the piece I'm working on is that" it feels like the start of a much longer tale." Is this something to be concerned about? I do get compliments on the ending, but if it feels like the start of a nov...

It doesn't mean I don't dream of a little cabin in the woods somewhere peaceful and devoid of interruption. wotf008 This is why the Universe made coffee shops, hotels and cruise ships. ;) When I absolutely have to get something done, I head off-site. For a few hours, it's the coffee shop at the bot...

Re: 7 Questions with Brad R. Torgersen

Thank you, Brad. One particular bit hit home with me, the bit about reading the anthologies and finding the stories, regardless of where they placed, that really resonated with *you* and that being the key to adding oomph to your own work. I had crits on a story where readers wanted more depth and m...

Re: Q1 Volume 29

I've got my Q1 entry just waiting for that last, final, Final2, no really final, check for typos n such. There's a small chance it will get edged out by a piece in the hopper, but I think the one in the hopper will end up being Q2. I think the one in the hopper, being hard SF instead of fantasy, wil...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Again, I'm guessing, but I think the contest adds a nice dose of communitas, that whole cohort-unification-through-shared-ordeal sort of thing. And I would add a smiley here except that I've just read the line of posts about smil/ey/ies, their uses and abuses. So I'll talk about Vernors instead. It'...

Critters doesn't have much in the way of community and there are a couple of reasons for that. For one, you can't see any of the crits on a given story (unless you're the author) until the Saturday after the crit window ends. The moderator over there says that's to prevent folks from prejudicing the...

Assuming I've got the quarters right, and we're in Q1, Vol 29 now (Dec. 31 deadline?), I'll be submitting at the very end of the window. I'm developing 2 or 3 pieces, so I'll take the next few weeks to decide which one to submit right near the deadline. I like to keep my options open. :)
