Re: Analog Submissions

Not to be contradictory, but Dave told us he was reading during WorldCon. I can't speak for Trevor, but Dell is going through some big transitions, and Trevor is filling some big shoes with Stan gone. And iirc, Trevor is reading all the stories himself, which is a huge job given the size of the slu...

Re: Five Minute Rant

"didn't quite work" is one of JJA's higher tier rejections, I think. "Didn't grab" is the lowest, which means he didn't finish the story. I think there's one other, but I can't remember what it was. So "didn't quite work" is either the highest(?) or the second-highest....

I'm right there with you at 103 days, Preston, so you're not the only one in limbo land. Good luck! Ooh! Then here's to us sharing the next issue! wotf009 According to Duotrope there've been a flurry of 32 rejections and 2 rewrites since July 4th ranging from 5 to 109 days. I've got two in the dock...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Geez, Bob, that sucks. And this does not bode well for my story there, which is at 112 days and counting. I have yet to get a personal from them. Preston, when you log into their tracking system, does it say "Received" or something else? Just curious, my own is sitting at 78 days and stil...

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm not as optimistic. My theory is that Analog and Asimov's don't put the manuscripts of established writers in the slush pile. They look at them first, and accept or reject them as necessary. I've heard anecdotally from some established writers that many markets do this. For instance, can you ima...

Re: Analog Submissions

Hi everyone! I submitted 5 months ago. It's only 1,000 words long. It's still mark "received." What does the category change to when they read it? Does it go to straight rejection or under review as Asimov Magazine? ICarpoz, I wouldn't worry ... have a piece out with Analog that siting at...

Re: Analog Submissions

By the time they read the new story in two to five months the old one will be forgotten so they won't realize I sent in another story before they rejected that one, if they are concerned with that by this time. They aren't. I'm very sure of that. Brad convinced me. He said he makes sure to space th...

Me too.

Now we know that being "Under Review" for long periods of time at Asimov's likely means nothing significant.

I'm at 61 days at Asimov's, and it only just changed from "Received" to "Under Review" yesterday. And then form rejection a few hours later after posting this... My submission status at 41 days is still listed as "Under Review" and giving me false hope, but I know bett...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Well, my Q3 finalist got a lightning fast form reject from F&SF. I figured they wouldn't want it because its rather long (and would be expensive for them to buy) but really, that was a FAST rejection. Rant over. Back out it goes... I actually prefer fast rejections. The best markets are Lightsp...

Re: Five Minute Rant

AESCIFI has had one of my stories for 3 months. I queried and they said they'd get back to me in about a week. That was 2 weeks ago! Preston Dennett (HM x 3) Me too, only they never responded to my query. Very frustrating. Also keep in mind: Analog, Asimov's, and F&SF all surely lost some time ...
