Re: Five Minute Rant

I'll join the rant. I'm currently mired in my longest non-acceptance drought EVER - even longer than it took to get my first acceptance. I swear I'm improving, my readers keep saying, "This is the best story I've seen from you yet." which makes me feel awesome. (Thank you, readers!) But I...

Out here, about 36 miles from the epicenter, it felt more like being on a row boat (or a Sheridan tank) than like being in an actual earthquake. More roll and less rock. West Bay? Re: Analog Submissions

I just got a personal rejection from Analog earlier this week: "I rather like your style of writing and suggest that you try us again." It was completely unexpected, because the story I sent was not your typical Analog story (i.e., heavy on science being central to the story). I'm now caut...

Re: Penumbra Submissions

I didn't make it either. This is my first submission to Penumbra and my rejection read like this: "Thank you for your submission to Penumbra. Unfortunately, your story, while entertaining, did not make it to the final round of adjudication. We hope to see more of your work at Penumbra in the fu...

I'm thinking it's about time to hear about our isolated stories. Still time to enter for hyperspeed, though. Assuming you can put your story together with hyperspeed! wotf001 Yeah, it's been super quiet at Penumbra. My isolation story is the first one I've ever sent them. When do you all think they...

Re: Analog Submissions

It wouldn't be so bad if Analog allowed simultaneous submissions. But they don't.

Plus, in a form rejection email in which you hold someone's story hostage for 300 days, it is generally neither accurate nor empathetic to use the word "briefly" anywhere in the document.

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm thinking of submitting a fantasy story to Analog, and writing something in the cover letter to the effect of: "A temporary glitch in our frontal lobe led us to briefly overlook your submissions policy, so we sent you this fantasy story." I won't do it of course. But it would give me a ...

When do we send query number four? :) I think at 300 days, you strip down to your loincloth, pick up your sword, and charge the offices screaming, " THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!" Or query again, but keep your sword ready. I'm keeping my head down until I become a member of the 300. Then I will fig...

Re: Analog Submissions

So more Analog acceptances and rejections are coming down the pike. One writer reported an acceptance on Analog's Facebook page. I hadn't received an email yet, but I looked up my submissions in Analog's submissions system and my 141-day story had received a rejection, though the 292-day one is stil...
