Re: Analog Submissions

Wonder if it means anything that my stories take less time. Easier for him to decide no? Who knows? Analog's rejected three stories I've sent after the 283-day one, so Trevor's had no problem coming to a decision on those. As far as I'm concerned, there's only two possibilities: 1) The story's unde...

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm getting worried now. My story needs to get rejected or accepted quickly - or else I may find myself accepted at Apex. Now I am beginning to regret the rush of irate blood to the head which led me to sim sub it! I wouldn't worry about that. The chance of that happening (i.e., getting an acceptan...

Re: Analog Submissions

Hazlett, How long did it take for you to hear back on your query? I sent it yesterday morning, but figured it would take a couple of days to hear anything. I just have no idea what is normal. I'm in all new territory on this stuff now. Thanks! I sent my second query on a Tuesday and I got the exact...

Re: Analog Submissions

How did you query? I replied to their last response - the one inviting us to query again. Maybe that pushed them to take a look? I did the exact same thing so they would have some context, but the response was literally a cut and paste from Analog's last response to my query. My best guess is that ...

Re: Analog Submissions

Sorry, Hazlett! They might both be equally meaningless! I can't even imagine being accepted by Analog. This story is so old I've revised it about three times since! What's most frustrating for me is that this story is the most "Analog" of all the stories I've written, so I can't so easily...

Re: Analog Submissions

Analog just replied to say I am still under consideration. Is this a good sign? Does this mean they might actually like it? Or just that they haven't read it but will do? It feels like quite a positive response... That sounds like a fantastic reply! Especially since I just received the boilerplate:...

I'm at 191 days right now, while The Grinder is showing stuff a fair bit more recent getting the word. Not sure when I should query or not... ...or even how to really do it. wotf017 Hopefully I'll hear something in the next day or two and it will be a moot point. Tom, I'd wait until you hit 200 day...

Re: Analog Submissions

I am currently at 271 days. At 300, I fully expect to receive a telegram from the Queen. I'm also at exactly 271 days, and just received another rejection from Analog at 151 days, earlier this week. In fact, Analog's rejected three of my other stories during the same period the 271-day story's been...

Think it's too soon to start planning the Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29 five year reunion? wotf013 That's actually a fantastic idea. Re: Analog Submissions

Thank you, Martin. That was VERY HELPFUL. And don't worry, I won't take your "guesses" as gospel, but at least they're based on your experience with Analog, and they go a long way to paint a picture of what "might" (and perhaps most likely) go(es) on behind the scenes. I had actu...

Re: Analog Submissions

All very good points, Martin. Having sold to Analog in the past, do you have any theories as to why some people might have much longer wait-times than others? For instance, if Analog is seriously considering one of your stories, do they typically send you an indication that it's in the running befor...

Re: Analog Submissions

Wouldn't it make sense to at least put the story to in process if they had looked at it? Or to say as much when we queried? I would love to believe I am being held for a special occasion - but if that's true then I am not impressed with the way they treat their potential writers! Two weeks to respo...

Re: Analog Submissions

I agree about not sim-subbing. It's something I don't do. But there comes a point when it looks like your story just isn't on their agenda. Seriously, am I going to bother submitting to Analog again? Nope. You never know, Leo. Analog may actually still be considering your story. Maybe they're just ...

Re: Analog Submissions

In fact, that's the reason I haven't withdrawn my submission so I could send it to another market. I'd hate to start out on the wrong foot. Sure, it could be said that they're doing just that with me, but right now I need Analog a lot more than they need me. And this is the most compelling argument...

Re: Analog Submissions

Martin, I agree with you on the one flaw with my analogy of there being only "one" you. That's a fair point. However, I think the housing analogy is even less appropriate. If you sell a house, whether it's your only home or if you're a developer who has multiple homes, you can show any giv...

Re: Analog Submissions

Brad, I agree that irritating an editor is a risk, but it's a small one. One, in fact, that you can quantify. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that one submits a story to both Lightspeed and Analog. According to Duotrope, the probability of acceptance at Lightspeed is 0.35% and at Analog it's 1....

Re: Analog Submissions

Hazlett, how long is your story? Mine is flash. I keep wondering if they choose by length? Maybe they only look at short pieces when they have a small hole to plug in the magazine? Anyway, at about 100 days later than some recent rejections, I've had enough. I've sim subbed it. I think there's an i...

Re: Analog Submissions

So I still have a story out at Analog for 245 days. I queried Analog about it over two weeks ago, and have still heard nothing. I'm assuming it's lost or dead at this point.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
