Re: Success!

Congrats, Emily! I read it first thing in the morning, it was really good! wotf010 Thanks, Jason, Preston, Laurie, Aaron and Philip! wotf007 I started writing micro-stories for SpeckLit, but I had no luck there (Aaron has cracked that one, if I remember correctly). Anyway, SpeckLit is no more, so I ...

Re: Success!

And I have news of my own as well. Achievement unlocked: after several attempts I finally managed to have a story accepted by Grievous Angel. Bonus: it was the first of my micro-stories (100 words) to sell. Extra bonus: this ended a dreary dry spell of over two months interspersed with a lot of excr...

Re: Success!

Congrats for proing out, Tom! You've still a couple of chances to win the contest but even if you don't, don't worry 'cause many great writers never did. Winning the contest is great for a lot of reasons, but proing out is even harder. wotf009 Thanks, HL! And, as those of you following Galaxy's Edge...

Re: Galaxy's Edge

I think I'm right in saying GE is submission by invitation only and even so they don't accept numerous submissions. So well done you guys getting invited in the first place and super well done getting selected. Martin and Tom will be getting used to success by now, but GEORGE YOU ARE A MEGASTAR! We...

I'm trying to be cool about it, so I'll just re-post the line-up (without setting my name in bold wotf003 ) Here's the line-up for #22, which goes live Sept. 1: The Editor’s Word, by Mike Resnick Bookmarked, by Martin L. Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

It's been a long time since I posted to this thread, but I feel that I must. Editor's telling me that he enjoyed my story, it held his attention right up to the end, and he goes on to say that it was his favorite for the week. He doesn't buy it, though. (sigh) Give me form acceptances, any time. Th...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

That sounds like a hair's breadth, George. I know how you feel about so close and yet so far. However it's really better for one's self confidence than a form rejection, isn't it? wotf012 It is. On the down side, this type of rejection usually comes months later than a form rejection which gives yo...

Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets

George, What's your submission strategy, if you don't mind my asking? Mine has been to submit to these markets in order: F&SF Clarkeworld IGMS WOTF Then I have no strategy beyond that. It's a bit complicated. I have a spreadsheet with all available pro and semi-pro markets, with data collected ...

Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets

That's awesome, George! wotf010 Thanks, Jeanette! wotf007 There's a downside of course; nowadays I spend much more than half my available writing time on submitting, re-submitting, re-formatting for submissions, writing cover letters, trying to decide where to submit next, keeping track of my submi...

Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets

I've been through this before, but here is my ratio(s) again:

2012-2013 1.09%
2014-2015 2.29%
2016 so far 5.71%, and I hope I'll make 300 submissions by the year's end.
