Re: Five Minute Rant

Not that I'm in the know, but Duotrope says he did. At least, I seem to remember seeing all three acceptances this week.

I've submitted to Lightspeed several times before, but this is faster than fast. It's a good thing... and a bad thing.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Form rejection from ASIM less than 24 hours after submitting. Sigh. The story's up at Baen's Universe Slush, if anyone's interested in having a look. Was my Q3 '11 HM, and remains one of my favorite stories . . . but yeah, she's been rejected a lot . In other news, I am guilty of Duotropery and nee...

Re: Five Minute Rant

David, I'm not necessarily bemoaning three rejections in and of themselves- that's good because it means I have more stories out there, and I'm proud of that part. It's more the stress of the past week - flea invasion, taxes not finished, sick, impending party, too busy to write like I'd planned, be...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Well, here's my preemptive rant - this could be my first week to receive three rejections for three different stories. That is, if IGMS ever gets back to me. They've had my story for 70 days but somehow I'm starting to expect the worst. wotf005 It's all part of the game and all, but darn it, I like ...

I know it doesn't work this way, but such a huge gap between the rejections and the results yet to be announced feels very... Metaphorical.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I had a dream a couple of months ago where I had accidentally swapped phones with Lou Anders somehow, and it was the perfect opportunity to pitch my book to him - the one I have a setting for, but no characters or fully realized plot. Sigh.

Our subconscious can be so cruel sometimes.

Elinor, I don't submit to F&SF yet, either, for the same reason.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Thanks for the advice. I'm guessing since I made it to finalist that the story not being taken is just a TASTE issue. . . also cramming like 60 pages in a mag from an unknown writer is generally a no-no. I'll probably hold onto it until I have a reputation and some other stories I know are good for...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome Sarah!! As to the stress of submitting in two simultaneous quarters, it almost makes it easier - more children to stress over, yes, but it becomes harder to pick favorites as you go on.

Like I've had a child, though...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I guess I'm one of those people who writes a story and submits it first to WOTF sometimes, and sometimes submits it elsewhere first. I agree that no one should hinge their career on WOTf results, but I enjoy the speculation. As long as I don't get too obsessed over it and slow down my writing/submit...

I find it really interesting that, at least according to the small sample Duotrope provides, notifications (rejections at least) were following a generally chronological path through submissions. The "Responses have been received for submissions sent as recently as..." date has steadily p...

I write both science fiction and fantasy - almost a 50/50 split.
