Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

High marks for Treason by Orson Scott Card, which I read on the way to Canada last week. I'm a big fan of Card, and this was one of the few books of his I hadn't already read. Super, super weird story (though anyone who's read Card's short story collection will have a grasp for Card's strange tales)...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I never mind sharing. 47 days. Which is interesting, because remember how I made a mistake and accidentally submitted two stories really close to each other at Asimov's? The other story is at 61 days with no word yet. Odd, eh? I'll say (though no one may care!) that the one that just got the persona...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I received a rejection from Asimov's today, and when I saw it in my inbox I said to my friend Megan (who I'm visiting in Canada for a week) "Oh okay, just got another rejection... oh! It's a personal!" This was my rejected Q4, the longest short story I've ever written, about 9400 words. (M...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I don't think it's that they have a backlog of stories to work through - clearly they keep up with that. I believe they said they've purchased stories for far enough in the future that they don't want to keep buying and end up holding stories for 9 months until it's finally time to publish. Even tho...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome Jim! I hope you've already sent your story on to the next market - Daily Science Fiction is worth a try, as well as Flash Fiction Online, and many many others. Don't assume your story is bad just because the first market said no - keep submitting! As a data point, I made my first professiona...

Re: Success!

Okay, I received and signed the contract a few minutes ago (just to play it safe, I suppose. I don't know how most people feel about when to announce), so here's the spiel: It's for my flash story "The Business is Dying" to Penumbra for their Zombie Apocalypse issue, coming out in February...

Re: Success!

I made my first professional sale about 45 minutes ago! (Technically my first sale ever, since the Birthing Fire fiasco resulted in no money, just publication.)

Details are forthcoming. wotf006

I get either a basic form rejection from IGMS or else a detailed personal response. So I'm not sure if they actually have tiered form letters. wotf017
