Re: Five Minute Rant

I guess you could call this a rant about words, and no I don't mean anything that has to do with the words I write. I'm talking about the words that come out of peoples mouths. I just got an HM from writers of the future, and most everyone I've told has been negative about it. They will say things l...

Re: First Four-Fifty Critique Exchanges

Beginnings have always been a weakness of mine, I feel I often have trouble "grounding" the reader, as Dave calls it. So before I go any further, I was hoping to get a few people to look over my first 450, and let me know if it's headed in the right direction. Please PM me if you'd like to...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Thank you so much Stephen! I guess I was fretting over nothing! It's been a while, but I've started to think about entering the illustrators again. So I appreciate you taking the time to help answer my question!

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Ok I knew that later on I was going to realize how complicated I made things, when the question was simple!
What I'm trying to ask is - should the 8.5 x 11 be landscape or portrait? Silly me.

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Ok I've been trying to think of a way to ask this question without making it confusing, but I've been thinking about this so much that I feel like I'm not even making sense to myself! I'm probably over thinking this, but if I'm right, it could explain why my art was rejected when I entered years ago...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

I plan on becoming a double-threat...someday...

It's hard for me to write and submit 3 pictures every quarter. I seem to be focusing more on writing these days, but once I win I know I'll be back at it submitting to the illustrators!

Re: First Four-Fifty Critique Exchanges

I know this is extremely early (only 2 days into the new quarter!), so I completely understand if no one is willing to take me up on this. But I just have this idea I've been working on for quite some time now, and I really want to try and turn it into my Q1 story. I just need to know if I'm going i...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I think Kary's cleaning blew around the dust particles in my brain, and activated my memories of this quarter that I had long since forgotten. I had a dream that I bought a copy of Volume 29, and I was reading the openings of the stories to see how they impressed David Farland. I remember reading th...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

I just thought of a question. So everyone knows that David Farland judges the stories every quarter. But does anyone know who the judge of the art is? Does it change every quarter? Is there a way to find out who it is going to be before you enter? I was just wondering because if the judge is never t...

Rant! Daily Science Fiction rejected my story today. And it took me so long to figure out how to get the formatting right too.... wotf027

Re: Five Minute Rant

Thanks Austin, it seems to work when I copy everything into notepad. I figured out how to fix the lines in notepad and now I'm working through it so I'll be able to transfer the entire story to DSF. I hope in the end all this work will have been worth it!

Re: Five Minute Rant

Ok this is strange. I remember writing in this thread a couple months ago because I was having problems with the formatting when submitting to daily science fiction. I can't remember who, but someone was very helpful and wrote a list of steps to go through to set up the formatting. You had to go to ...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

I'm so low-tech I'm afraid I can't offer much advice. I got away with it because I did (mostly) b&w line art (few greytones) and scanned two halves of the original artwork/drawing ... joined the halves in Photoshop ... and printed out (or, Heaven forgive me, Staples xerox'd) the contest copy to...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Ok so I've been thinking about what my next submission should be for the Illustrator contest. Since I've had no luck with photographs and photoshop, I thought I'd try doing actual illustrations. But I had some questions on how to go about submitting them. The rules say that you can't submit anything...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Oh well if you don't have to indent that's even better, since most of the paragraphs were spaced the right way. I've never submitted there, so it's good to know all these things before hand!

Re: Five Minute Rant

Awesome Rebecca it worked! I pasted it in to DSF and it still looks like I'll need to indent the paragraphs but I like how each paragraph is already spaced so it's easier to go through and fix them. I'll be saving your instructions for future use. Thanks so much!

Re: Five Minute Rant

I use the replace tool in word. Replace one paragraph mark with two paragraph marks. Sooooo much easier. Then just copy/paste it into the box. Ok I feel stupid for not knowing, but how do you do this? Can someone give me like a step by step guide? Right now my story is in courier new, 12 font, doub...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Sigh. Got my rejection from IGMS today. Right on cue - in between the average 31 to 36 day wait mark. Why oh why can't I break free? Why must I always go with the flow!
