Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Yes, whenever someone writes a post about how the wait is killing them, I laugh and think to myself, if only they knew. If only they knew...

I feel proud that my first entry in the contest was part of such a wonderful and creative quarter.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Thanks Marina, I'll try that next time I submit something there. I know in the submission guidelines it talks about how your story should be plain text- not sure what that means but could that be part of the problem? My story is in rtf format right now, I'll be sure to change it when the time comes....

Re: Five Minute Rant

Ok this is a part rant/part question. I was going to submit a story to daily science fiction, and I get to one part of the submission form. That's when I find out you don't upload your story, you have to copy/paste it. So I do, and the whole story alignment is all off. Some paragraphs aren't indente...

Re: Five Minute Rant

And so it begins...

My Q2 HM story came back from asimov's today. Form rejection.

This was my first time submitting a story to a market other than WOTF. Oh well. As soon as it came back I turned around and sent it off to another one!

Re: Story in a Day Challenge

And Stephanie, I think the trick is practice. This time last year, I felt the same way about writing a story so quickly, but then I thought what the hell and gave it a try. It's really an exhilarating experience and a nice way to clear your head. Don't think, just write. The best way would be to se...

Re: Story in a Day Challenge

Well, unfortunately I didn't get a story done today. It turned out my day was more busy then I thought it was going to be. I did have some time at the start of the day, but then time just slipped away from me. I just can't do it. Every time I think of the 24 hour story I get a bad feeling in the pit...

Re: Story in a Day Challenge

I really like this idea too. I think it will also help us improve how well we can produce a story within a limited amount of time. It would be good practice and hopefully will make us more prepared when we have to tackle that 24 hour story at the workshop. Which actually is something I'm completely ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Wow you are all making me laugh so hard! Suddenly I feel the urge to submit this lyrical song I wrote: And now back to the story, All of a sudden it got gory. I reached out and shook the decapitated hand, Until I realized it was all part of the unnamed man's hand's plan. Instantly I was sucked into ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Yes, this has been a quarter for strange dreams... Oh that's three dreams about three finalist! You guys have to win now! I'm guessing all these strange dreams had something to do with the long wait for results this quarter. I even had two dreams after already getting rejected! Yes this quarter was...

Congratulations, Martin, Tina, and Marina! And to everyone else, as well. Bravo! (Anyone else notice how if you take the first three letters of Martin's name, and connect them to the last three of Tina's name, you get Marina? Eerie! There's only one explanation: they must each be a single incarnati...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Ok now this is getting really weird, because I had another dream last night about Q1. This time instead of 24 winners per year there were 24 finalists and only 6 winners (3 writers and 3 illustrators). I was one of those 24 finalists. About every week they would release one of the names of a person ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I know this is completely off topic, but I had this strange dream last night about Q1. They added a short film category to the contest. It could be live action or animated, just as long as the theme was science fiction or fantasy. I even remember some of the rules- had to be no longer than 10 minute...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Yeah you are right, it's probably better to stick with one style. I'll just have to create a bunch of different things, and then later try to decide which ones best fit together. This will be my first time entering, so it's great to get all this helpful advice. Thanks soulmirror!

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

I'd suggest they use the term "illustration" very broadly ... not to mean that you have to draw or paint anything ... but that it is any visual imagination of the story prose. Back in the '70's it wasn't all that unusual to see a SCULPTURE "illustrating" a sci-fi or fantasy book...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

Thanks for your help answering my questions. I think I'll just stick with jpg then to be safe. Also thanks for the links. I guess my main question is how exactly did they create the art. Did they use some kind of computer tablet/pen, and illustrating or painting software? Here is an example of somet...

Wow, the news of K.D.passing, and rejections all in the same day. I just can't believe it, I'm at a loss for words. I had already planned on what I was going to say when more rejections came in, but now with learning about K.D. the tone of this topic has changed, so I won't be posting it. But I will...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

I have a couple of questions I hope someone can clear up for me. First, I noticed on the rules it says that electronic submissions can be in either jpg, .pdf or .png format. However, when I went to the submission page it said "ONLY *.jpg and *.jpeg files will be accepted." So would I be di...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I’ve become immune to rejections too. That is, unless it’s a new endeavor that I’ve recently tried to pursue. The first rejection for me is always the hardest. My Q1 story was the first writing rejection I’ve ever got. It took me a while to get over it. But as time passes I find it easier to move on...

I had just learned about these rules a couple of days ago, and I know there were a lot of times I used certain w...

Hi everyone, my name is Stephanie and I finally decided to join the forums after getting my rejection from Q1 last night.
