Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

When did I become the kind of writer that wastes 1100 words at the start of a short story on atmospheric scene setting and description? I used to get dinged by readers for a lack of detail and description because I was so focused on my plot and this past week at my writers group meeting I read out 1...

Qualified Success!

This is not a sale, but it feels so much more to me at the moment.
I have just gotten my first request for a full manuscript from an agency.

Apparently I didn't muck up the first chapter too badly...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hi there. My name is Tristi Mullett and this is my first time entering the contest. It's actually my first time submitting any sort of fiction to any venue, really. It's a bit nerve-wracking, to be honest. But I promised myself I would do it this year, and I've made it prior to the final deadline. ...

Hey brother you are singing my song. (except I have no pro-level sales yet but I am starting top get feedback at the pro-level on my rejections.) Greetings, all. I have two publications this week. One in Outposts of Beyond, but the main one is in Dimension6. For those who don't know, D6 is brand new this year. A free semi-pro e-mag published by the highly regarded Keith Stevenson. I'm thrilled to be on this TOC with Cat Sparks and Rob Hood, ...

OK, I did enter once back in '88 or so, but both the contest and I would prefer to forget that one.

It certainly was special for me -- my one and only SF with Dave.

Happy to say that I sold two speculative poems (a haiku and a tanka) to Grievous Angel , a new pro-paying flash and poetry imprint of Urban Fantasist. Dave is a very different judge, with very different tastes, and that's frustrating when you can't figure out those tastes. And this is a major stumbling block for me not just here at WotF but everywhere. I read the magazine, I read the anthologies and I'm nearly always stuck trying to work out what...
