Re: Success!

I scored my first pro level sale. Waiting in the contract, but it's 5 cents a words and it's my flat rejection from last quarter wotf006 Brimming with awesome. Is this the "Lie" story? It is indeed 'This Story is a Lie." Not bad for story that started out as a challenge to write a ta...

Re: Success!

Like Bob I also await the contract, but I have received an acceptance from T Gene Davis's Speculative Blog for a 2100 word contemporary fantasy. Gratitude to Stewart for suggesting that Gene might like this particular story. That's twice you have pointed me in the direction of a sale. I wish I coul...

Re: Success!

Congrats, Bob! I love stories like that. It reminds us that a rejection doesn't necessarily mean it's bad writing. Steve This we all need to engrave on stone and whack ourselves in the forehead when we too stressed by dave's bitter rejections. The ONLY thing you can know from an 'R' is that Dave di...

Re: Slush

WotF is the only market I have re-submitted a story to. (And of course never an SF or above) Joni actually encouraged it, so here it is far from being a bad thing.
That said, nothing changed.
As far as pro markets. in my limited opinion the rul is only re-submit if they *asked* for changes.

Re: Success!

December was amazing. I received a HM in WotF (went down to the wire with that one), sold four stories and had two reprints. (and I have two more currently on hold) Holland: 1944, my V30Q3 rejection which then sold to Galaxy's Edge (without changing a word) was reprinted in 'The Best of Galaxy's Ed...

It's not a publication success but I'm celebrating just the same.
The 30,000 words opening to my novel is now a slim 16,800 words.
hell it could a WotF submission if I wanted LOL

I feel so smart.
I had two scenes that dragged i my book and now I know how to make them into one fast scene that doesn't drag.
Pacing improved, word count reduced.

Re: Five Minute Rant

Not about my 'R', I've become very zen about those. Now it's about seeing how wrong I had been in the construction of my novel. One the notes I got back was that the first battle sequence in the book took too long, moved too slowly, and needed drastic cutting. So here I am cutting down view point ch...

Gossamer: No, it's been something like 30 years since I haven't gotten a fast report. I don't sell everything the first time out, about 10% bounce, but it saves me the trouble of having to simultaneously submit. As an editor, I've run into it a couple of times (not with Galaxy's Edge), and I just s...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I am curious whether Under Review means a reader has just been assigned to the piece, or if a reader is forwarding it to editorial for 2nd level reading. Could anyone shed any light into the editorial flow at Asimov's? Up until this year, Sheila had no reader. She read all her own slush. Now the ru...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

When did I become the kind of writer that wastes 1100 words at the start of a short story on atmospheric scene setting and description? I used to get dinged by readers for a lack of detail and description because I was so focused on my plot and this past week at my writers group meeting I read out 1...

Hi there. My name is Tristi Mullett and this is my first time entering the contest. It's actually my first time submitting any sort of fiction to any venue, really. It's a bit nerve-wracking, to be honest. But I promised myself I would do it this year, and I've made it prior to the final deadline. ...
