Re: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books You Enjoy?

I'm getting annoyed lately by my seeming inability to enjoy fantasy. It's like I can neither write it nor read it; something just feels off. I may be burned at the stake for saying this, but I can't get into Game of Thrones. It feels very same-old-same-old to me. I haven't read it but I wasn't impr...

Re: Story in a Day Challenge

First draft is finished! Just under 1400 words, and probably shorter by the time I get through with it. I've never written a flash piece that really felt complete before, so it's been interesting. Not sure if it has any true try-fails though, at least not in the on-scene action...

Re: Brad's in Analog AGAIN...

Perhaps the forum needs to organize some sort of an "intervention" for Mr. Torgersen ?!? What if this "sales of stories to Analog" becomes some sort of on-going, life-altering addiction, and he just keeps writing more and more stories, and keeps selling more and more ?!? Oh, wai...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

Yar, LD, he is the villain. The unnamed villain. The unnamed-for-no-good-reason villian. I'm becoming mightily disillusioned with J.J.Abrams. He's a master of suspense, but never seems to be able to provide satisfying answers to his titillating questions. The guy's work is all promise, no payoff. w...

Not since Antonio Banderas has anyone made my knees go weak like Benedict Cumberbatch does. *swoons* Not sure who he is...did he narrate the trailer? At first it sounded like Patrick Steward. Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

Took me a while to get to this. Not your usual ST from the shorter trailer. Article I agree, and I think it has promise. When the last one came out I saw it in the theaters and came away feeling affronted because it didn't seem like Star Trek. Saw it again later on DVD and loved it. I'm going into ...

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

It does seem to be hard to find a decent sci-fi show (or any really) that keeps you glued to the screen. Falling Skies does it fairly well if you turn off the little logical unit in your head about...20% of the time? Otherwise it's decent, Pope is awesome. wotf001 I'd suggest looking for DVDs of sc...

I didn't realize Caprica had been cancelled, which shows how out of the loop I am on TV of late. I do miss having an ongoing scifi show to watch though. I've been hearing a lot lately about BSG: Blood and Chrome. The original re-imagined series (does that make sense?) was fantastic, but I never got around to watching Caprica so I'm not sure if I'll hit up Blood and Chrome or not.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

It's true that three movies could be a sign of over-indulgence on Jackson's part. That would be a bit of a let down. Hopefully though, he draws sufficiently on other materials to make it a great trilogy. I wonder what the impact of using those other materials will/would be on the tone of the movie v...

Soooo...I know it's not really on TV, but is anyone else getting amped up for The Hobbit? I. Can't. Wait. Yes! I am.
