Re: Success!

Totally excited for you, Rebecca! A little sad though too. Must be a bitter sweet feeling to be a pro writer and have to leave the contest at the same time. wotf014

Re: Hooked on the Dragon

I use Dragon Dictation on my morning and evening commutes to and from the office. I like it, although sometimes I have to scratch my head deciphering what the app hears me saying. I don't, however, use it when I write at the library or other public spaces where other people are trying to concentrate...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Dang! So close! I had a story that was being held for consideration by a semi-pro magazine. I sent them a follow-up after their deadline had passed for getting back to me. The editor told me it's a strong story; they just can't use it at this time. But . . . he also said if the story hasn't sold by ...

Re: Held for consideration

I'm glad I found this message thread. First of all, congrats Rebecca for getting that far! I also have a story being held for consideration. However, in his email to me, the editor said they'd try and have a decision for me by last week. As of today, still no response. So I'll probably give them unt...

FYI...I forwarded my original submission (May 3rd) to Lezli and she passed it on to the editorial staff. She said to allow up to an additional 30 days before hearing anything back. Glad they were able to figure out what happened and get it taken care of.

Oh my gosh, Matt, I can't tell you how good that blog post from Charlie made me feel this morning! I've been pretty bummed lately about my lack of success (i.e. "Still not a single pro sale...") I had never seen this post from Charlie before. I've submitted four stories to F&SF in the ...

Re: Galaxy's Edge

MIne was submitted 57 days ago. Having misplaced Mike's email address, I sent it to the general submissions when the slush pile was opened to non-invitees for the first time two months ago. It looks as though Mike's continued to reply promptly to those that go direct to him, but very little activit...

For those who have submitted to Galaxy's Edge previously, did any of you receive a confirmation that your story was received? I did not, and based on activity in The Grinder, looks like most results come back within 12 days or so. My story's been out 14 days, and I just want to make sure Galaxy rece...

You can always join up with Critters online and get feedback on your stories. I've always received feedback from at least ten or a dozen different people and most of the information is pretty useful.

I totally feel your pain, LD. You meet that one editor and the two of you totally connect and they really like what they're seeing in your work, but your work isn't selling at THEIR OWN MAGAZINE. Argh! Workshops are unique because it's a smaller group of writers and the workshop leader -- in this ca...
