Re: Frozen

I have not seen the movie. I have noted above another flimsily disguised piece of archaic canned meat substitute. Seriously. Where is the least suitable place to advertise a writing service? On a forum solely frequented by people who can all write themselves. The logic of this persistent anomaly esc...

Re: Success!

Well, not only has my story 'The Waiting Room' been accepted by Third and Starlight but I got a really nice note from Dr Bob about it. IMHO this story deserves reprinting, but in the context of Peony's news it might be worth remarking it's my Flame Tree story - the one that found me sandwiched betwe...

Re: Success!

I'm so excited I finally get to post in here. My Heroic Fantasy submission to Flame Tree Publishing got picked up for publication! I found out about three weeks ago, but they asked me to keep quiet until they made official announcements. http://blog.flametreepublishing.com/fantasy-gothic/gothic-fan...

And another rejection from Rattle's 'Poets Respond' Obamadvice You might have thought he would have learned before, Obama, when he cast the Brexit runes, Telling the British how they should vote for Europe, not go off whistling their own tunes. Well, his advice did not go down so well; “You know wha...

p.s. - I belive I may live near the real Bob Writer. They are very similar I suspect this must be a doppelganger as well as a typo. Given that some of Bob's best friends are lumberjacks and only a few of them are transvestites It is unthinkable that they inhabit the same county as the Lincolnshire ...

Re: Flame Tree seeking short stories

I confess to being twitchy about having five in for this (2 time travel). The problem is, the more you put in, the more they could throw out. Moreover they have in the past sent me an 0 for 2 reply in one email. That's bad enough. I really dread to think of the impact an 0 for 5 email might have. wo...

Bad guys are problems
Quite easily solved by the
Mother of all bombs.

Oh my! That may be
A step too far over the
Edge of The Abyss.

For whom the bell tolls
Doesn't matter so long as
Someone still tolls the bell.

Re: Poems for Pleasure

Thanks. Iambic heptameters are probably too wordy for most people's tastes, but they do therefore provide something unusual. The only poem of mine to win a competition prize in modern times was actually written in iambic pentameters. Right now that's in Rattle's long term slush pile. I am hoping to ...

Re: Cover Letters

I agree with Matt. The one exception I might suggest is directly relevant personal experience, e.g. the story is about a deep sea diver who's been eaten by a squid and you ARE a deep sea diver who's been eaten by a squid. If I remember rightly I told CRES when submitting 'The Wild Hunt of Sliabh Man...

Re: Poems for Pleasure

I've been taking an interest in Rattle's weekly 'Poets Respond' feature, for poetry about current news. I doubt if poetry from an idiosyncratic UK perspective will suit their audience, even were it not for my seldom writing blank verse* and never writing free verse**, two features of my work that ma...

I experimented for a little while with mentioning my SF. No obvious positive results. I suspect it ranks no better than a personal rejection in the great scheme of things and I don't think I'll bother repeating it, given that numerous editors only want to hear about your top 3 sales and I'm fortunat...
