Me too! No idea what I'll do with the others I didn't sell. Can't imagine there's much call for 100 word stories >>

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Well, I managed finalist again for the String of Ten contest run by Flash Fiction Chronicles. (Same as last year.) Maybe third time's a charm and I'll break through to the top three next year? Inevitably. Unless they require three try / fail cycles, that is. wotf016 Well done! wotf010 *collapses in...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I got a form at 223 days when all the other reported responses around then were personal. Definitely feel your pain. I didn't have a previous (awesome) personal to tide me over though ;p

My drought has finally broken. My story 'Reflections' will be in Fablecroft's Insert Title Here anthology.

I hope it won't be this long again till I make a third sale wotf004

And thank you to Rebecca Birch as this story started in one of her prompts in the October Madness thread wotf007

Re: Black Static / Interzone

I've heard, but I don't know where now so I might just be making things up, that their payment varies and that's why it's not listed.

It was probably even here I heard(made it up).

Re: Penumbra Submissions

In for superheroes. I had to do three passes to cut it down. The first defintely made the story stronger, the second probably did. The third was pure desperation, and it was 3500 exactly at the end. But I'm in for the first time since revolutions.

No notice here. I was hoping they would do a post when they picked finalists so we would know for sure, but I guess we have to wait until they choose their winners.

Re: Penumbra Submissions

I've got a story that might work for superheroes (it was rejected in time... so boo for rejection, but yay for being in time?). I'd need to cut almost 500 words from it though. Hm. I guess I'll have another look at it.

Re: Flash Fiction Chronicles "string of 10" contest

I guess. As I said, probably a stupid question, I just had a slight don't-want-to-stuff-it-up moment. Thanks, Ishmael!

Well, I'm in. It's only the second piece I've written that short, so it was quite a bit of fun.

Re: Flash Fiction Chronicles "string of 10" contest

This is probably a stupid question but... they say don't include a byline but you have to put a cover letter, so does that include not putting your name in the cover letter?

Yes, that F&SF - CC Finlay is guest editing an issue, and he took electronic subs.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Got my personal rejection for the F&SF CC Finlay issue. He seems to be doing mostly personals, but it's still nice.

This is the story that got me the higher tier from Asimov's... and was rejected in the first wave of quarter 4 here. Writing is weird wotf017

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I guess a personal from Asimov's doesn't really count; they're all personals now they're sending out the rejections again... but I'm pretending it does!

I think that umbrella might have broken under the weight though wotf005

So let's all try writing down a first sentence on Family Traditions and see where it goes. Ishmael has a good point there. I do like working to themes or prompts or whatever, and I admit the moment Ishmael said that... a first sentence popped into my head haha. Alas, it comes burdened with much res...
