1 down, 3 to go. I have next quarter planned, and an idea for third. 4th - no clue.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Just met my goal of 25 rejections for the year. Still have 4 outstanding, and I'll probably send this one back out once I figure out the next place its going.
Out of that I got 6 personals, which is more than last year! Yay progress!

Re: Where do you get your inspiration?

A lot of my story ideas have come from playing video games and wanting to take things a different direction than they did. Such as "What if Zelda was jealous that Link found the Master Sword?"

Re: critters.org Manuscript Notifications

My story "2 Flowers" is now available for critique at critters. It's admittedly a bit of a mess, but wanted some opinions before refining it.

Re: Submitting Honorable Mentions To Magazines

I think you're asking about the likelihood of selling an honorable mention as is, not about whether mentioning the HM in your cover letter helps. So, here's my data points. My submissions of HMs and SHMs have gotten me a pile of rejections and one sale to a semi-pro zine. Some of those are only now ...

Re: critters.org Manuscript Notifications

I have another story in the queue this week - "After the Escape." It is unchanged from when it won Silver Honorable Mention in Q1 (So, amy has already given me a critique. I just wanted some more opinions before I dive into story surgery.)

Thanks for letting us know about this. I've submitted to Time Travel and Heroic Fantasy. If another story gets back in time, it shall go to Lost Worlds.

Re: What's a good conversion rate when submitting to markets

I like that thing. I also have a rejection goal. Because of it, I got held for consideration at a market I wouldn't have submitted to otherwise.

Now to prepare my story to go get another rejection. wotf024

Re: Submit, submit, submit

So those of you with 20+ submissions at a time, how long did it take to create that many stories, and how long does it take to create a new story?

I've been submitting each quarter for 3 quarters now, and just hope to keep up that pace, so I don't anticipate getting up to that many any time soon.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

My story was held for consideration by an anthology before ultimately getting rejected.

And it would have been my first pro publication too. Darn.

On to the next market. wotf024

Hugo Recommendations

I blogged with a list of what I am currently thinking of nominating for a Hugo. However, I know that I have barely scratched the surface for what is eligible.

So, what recommendations do you have for the Hugos? What should I be reading the next two months?

Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!

Just got my first rejection from Finlay. Greatly impressed with the amount of personals he's giving out. His comment accurately hits a weakness of my writing, so I'm going to analyze before sending out again.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Wow, its been 2 1/2 years since I last submitted to this contest. I was honorable mention, but in the time since, I've been focusing on writing novels. Lately, though, I've been on a short story kick. So we'll see how I do. I've always written fantasy, and have been especially interested in explorin...
