Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!

Actually, four of my things out are screenplays entered in competitions. Three in the Nicholl, including one sf. The sf one just got entered in the ScreenCraft science fiction script contest too. The waits for screenwriting competitions are brutal, so I try (fruitlessly pretty much) to forget about ...

Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!

I did the exact same thing, LD. It completely slipped my mind, until after he closed. I understand why he does it, but it's not easy to keep up with. I have about a dozen things out right now, at least. Waiting to hear back from those should be quite enough for the moment.

Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!

When I did a new sub tonight, he had clarified the 15 day waiting period, saying if he responded after 15+ days it's okay to sub again right away. I was waiting an extra 15 days, then forgetting about it. (I'm not entirely awake and may have garbled that a bit. It's on the submissions page and easy ...

Re: Five Minute Rant

This rant is at myself and Murphy's Law. I joined the forum to finally take part after lurking for ages because of an impossible internet connection, but have been reduced by Murphy's Law to all but lurking still as a member. I've been sick twice, adding up to five weeks total, since I joined. There...

Re: Copyrighted work

All of the above. Plus the infamous Jingle All the Way case. And don't even get me started about releases screenwriters have to sign before a screenplay will be looked at by most anybody, including prestigious competitions. The wording is like an anvil dropped on your head.

Re: Copyrighted work

Also not a lawyer.... An added note, for anyone considering writing screenplays. That's a whole different kind of thing. It's always highly recommended that screenwriters register their scripts with the copyright office and/or the WGA or both. I register with the WGA, as is common practice. They kee...

Re: Success!

Congrats to so many successes. It's helpful to find commiseration among others on the forum going through the rejection mill, and so encouraging to see so many finding success. Especially sometimes after frustrating struggles. Kudos all!

Re: New SFWA Rules

Yes, it is indeed weird to qualify as a pro writer, but still be eligible for WotF. I've been hovering in that strange position for some time now. I had a story in mind for the James White contest...and then I got to the part where it said three stories sold makes a writer ineligible. My three Stran...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Somehow, no matter how I try to stagger subs or how different the markets' response times are, responses tend to come in clumps. With e-subs more common now, Sundays and holidays are clump fair game. So every day may be Clump Day.

Re: F&SF has a new editor--and now does e-subs!

I was really glad to see that they take e-subs now. It's so much more convenient for writers. My first C. C. Finlay rejection had a nice compliment, which is always so appreciated. I went online to do another. When I saw it said there's a 15 day waiting period between submissions, I first took it to...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I'm experimenting to see if trying to write flash on my phone will self-restrict my novella loving muse. It's helped me keep my blog posts much shorter than when I write on my laptop. There are markets for very short fiction I'd love to try, but I rarely manage anything that tight.

Re: Five Minute Rant

It's hard enough to ignore the persistent doubter in our own heads, without the cluelesness of others that can even go so far as ridicule. I've been lucky with close family and friends who get it, but there are always people who make me feel as if they think I'm delusional for believing in myself. H...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Thanks, Ben. It would feel quite a bit more impressive with the almosts replaced by absolutes. (Haven't figured out the smilies yet. Imagine smile here.)

I'm always happy to learn. Good to know someone with your area of expertise!

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hi all, I'm Muri McCage, a somewhat successful writer with an alarmingly eccentric trajectory. I've been entering the Writers of the Future Contest for ages, over which I've accumulated twelve Honorable Mentions, plus two Quarter Finals from the age of lore. My big thing is being a three time Strang...
