Re: Five Minute Rant

Argh! Why can I write a 7,000 word story that I'm in love with, but can't come up with two or three words for a title that I don't despise? Someone should start a service where you can send them a story, and they'll come up with an awesome title for it. I would be their best customer. This is the s...

Re: Crossed Genres

I saw this yesterday and was very sad. It sounds like their editor is really having a tough time, which I am sorry to hear. I can't imagine how difficult the decision was. I was really looking forward to submitting to them, so on a personal level, I'm sad, too.

Re: Success!

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a success here, but I'm pretty excited. I got my first personal rejection today from Scott Andrews over at Beneath Ceaseless Skies. It was for the story I got the HM here in Q3. I know it's still a rejection, but it was definitely not a form one! It feels really enc...

Re: Fantastic Stories Rejection Question

I honestly find all of this fascinating. Publications vary so widely in the way they correspond with people. Some even make you feel good about being rejected! Asimov's is my favorite for rejections. Their form letter is just so darn nice!

Looking to Exchange 5000 Words

Well, I'm feeling brave-ish, so I'm going to go out on a limb and do something I've never done. Ask for a critique from one of you wonderful folks. I've got a story that's a bit under 5000 words, fantasy, and I'd like to exchange for something around the same length. Anyone up for a swap?

Ooh, nice! Thanks for the add.

I'm going to celebrate the small victories and take this rejection with a big smile. Baby steps!

Re: Fantastic Stories Rejection Question

Ah, interesting. No, I know that it certainly is a form, it was the "keep us in mind" bit at the end that gave me pause.

Mine was signed by Robert, so it didn't get passed up to Warren. Still, I'm going to take them at their word and send them more. wotf007

Fantastic Stories Rejection Question

Has anyone gotten a rejection from Fantastic Stories of the Imagination? I ask because, I got a form rejection, but I'm not sure if it's the higher tier rejection. They're not listed in rejection wiki, so I am unsure. "Thank you for sharing your story with us at Fantastic Stories of the Imagina...

Very nice! Now that is a hard year of work!

Again, thanks for the encouragement. You guys are awesome.

And I do like that poem. wotf007

Re: Retiring a Piece - When to Call it Quits

I mean, to be fair to myself, when you think of fish in the sea, the markets I've been submitting to are whale sharks.

(Why, yes! I can beat a metaphor to death!)

I just need to slog on. Keep going.

Re: Retiring a Piece - When to Call it Quits

Thanks for the encouragement you guys. Three rejections in 48 hours left me feeling pretty down. I know, I know. It's part of it, and since I'm just starting out, it's going to be a long road. That's okay. I'm willing to walk it. It just left me a little blue is all. I thought I had exhausted the SF...

Retiring a Piece - When to Call it Quits

At what point do you guys retire a piece? Give up on it? Send it to the big file cabinet in the sky? Do you go through all of the SFWA qualifying market, Pro, and Semi-Pro? Do you bother with what The Grinder refers to as Token market and unpaid? When do you call it quits on a story? wotf005 Yes, it...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I simply cannot train myself to succeed in the fine art of not hoping. My submission to the Tor.com Novella Program kept substantially outstaying the estimated response time they kept changing. Telling myself not to hope, I hoped anyway. Form rejection today. Sigh. (technically, a sigh is not much ...

Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. This is my very first time submitting to the contest, and, in fact, my very first time submitting anything to anyone. I'm brand new, starting from scratch.
