Lol, I brought mine to a writing group. And found at least five typos! wotf001

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 35

I emailed my entry after getting locked out of the portal. So I guess I'm just hoping for an HM at this point.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome!

The eight finalists in every quarter get notified with a phone call. Everyone else gets notified via email.

The only people who receive critique are the semifinalists. This also bars you from re-entering that story, since getting personal critique from Dave is kinda an unfair advantage.

Fantastic sale, Michelle! Congratulations! I have a new flash story, "Phoenix, Fallen," out in the brand new magazine Factor Four. Excited to be in the inaugural edition, along with several other Writers of the Future-type folks! Thanks, Rebecca! And congratz! Something I'll be reading th...

Re: Contest Questions

1. It's Pacific Time. In Q1 the portal closed and I emailed Joni with my entry after it was past midnight in Eastern Time. She accepted it. I felt like a jerk and wouldn't recommend doing what I did, but Pacific Time is the cut-off. 2. Not sure. But I assume with electronic subs, it's a little less ...

Welcome Katie and Phoenix!

I would second what Jeremy said: Best to keep details about your story (title, plot points, ect.) secret, or at least off these particular forums where judges might look. It's a small chance, but breaking anonymity could result in disqualification.

Crud, it's one day before the deadline and I still haven't decided what story to send! Neither of my options even remotely resembles anything in the anthology. wotf018

Re: Success!

I sold a story to The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. *faints*

Blogged about it here: http://www.ympang.com/i-sold-a-story-to ... e-fiction/

It's close to April Fool's. Wouldn't blame y'all if you didn't believe me.

Re: What's a Silver Honorable Mention as opposed to a regular HM?

I've experimented with putting/not putting Finalist on cover letters. Didn't seem to make a difference either way. Up until six months ago, all I got were rejections anyway, haha. For my recent sales, I mentioned being WotF Finalist on only one of them. But for the other places, I've mentioned being...

My mecha story "Final Flight of the PhoenixWing" will be appearing in THE RAZOR'S EDGE, a military SF/F anthology about rebellion from Zombies Need Brains. Pre-orders here: https://squareup.com/market/zombies-need-brains-llc/ Fun fact: I actually got rejected from their SUBMERGED anthology...

Re: Discussion - Q2 - Volume 35

Ack, the conclusion of another quarter draws near. My, er, "first choice" story is with another market--will wait to see if I get that rejection back before the 30th. If not, I have a different story waiting in the wings... Funny, I used to write stories specifically for the contest. Now I...

Re: The line between Form and Personal Rejection

Depends on the market is probably the best way to think about it. For what it's worth, in my personal submissions tracker, I sort things into three categories: Form, Higher-tier Form, and Personal. Quite a few big markets give a slightly different form letter for stories that reached some second rou...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Hello everyone, I'm Y.M. Pang. You can also call me Michelle. It feels odd to type in a thread titled "New Users! Introduce Yourselves!" Because, well... I'm not exactly new to the contest. I made my first WotF submission in 2009, back when I was in high school, subs were done by snail mai...
