Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37

Congratulations to all who received good news! And to those who got rejected (like me), don’t give up! Preston Dennett entered the contest for forty seven times before winning, and of course, our wonderful forum administrator, Moon, who had been submitting for twenty five years. So, just keep strivi...

What matters is that you wrote a story, finished it, and submitted it. That's a big deal. Keep on writing and keep on learning and keep on submitting. :)

Thanks Leah! I'm working on my Q3 submission

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37

Good luck everyone! I wasn't nervous before, but now I am. I'm not sure what to think. It's kind of funny, when I submitted my story for Q1, I was super proud, but now I keep turning it over in my head, thinking of things I could have done better, to the point where I foresee a rejection... I felt ...

You're welcome. AND...a little bird told me it will be two or three weeks for the first results to start coming in from Q1. Hang in there!

I'll get to the assignment on Martin this week, but in the meantime, I'll post my answer to the positive thinking one. oishisushi, I loved your response, and not just because you mentioned my story--and I hope it made you feel fragile in the best way possible. :) I got my call from Joni at 10:15pm ...

Re: Wulf Moon's SUPER SECRET Workshop & Challenge!

My first post replying to Moon's assignments! I have been closely following your posts and liking them every day, Moon :) I have two images in mind—the first one is myself touring the Author Services building, listening to Joni introducing the history of WOTF. The second one is of myself at the art ...

Hey, everyone! Not sure if I’m supposed to be discussing stuff like this on the Q2 discussion thread, but well.... I didn’t see any capitalized sentences in the winning stories, so I’m wondering if I should stick with my plan. Also, I try to avoid using abbreviations like didn’t or couldn’t in my na...

Thanks, Andy! Congrats on your win! I liked your story very much after I read it. The title really piqued my curiosity.

I hope this isn’t an offensive question, but how did you win an HM after your penultimate entry won?

Re: Do the judges receive print or electronic copies of the stories to review?

Electronically, i guess, if you submit an electronic file. On the eighth page of the blog, in the article "Why You Only Got An Honorable Mention", paragraph 2 line 1, Dave Farland says "Right now on my computer, I have a story up." See this link: https://www.writersofthefuture.co...

To all you twitchers out there, stop twitching. Q1 will be delayed. I just finished talking to Kary English. The current pandemic has caused problems across the board, slowing everything down. So go back to getting your Q2 in and figure out what you will write for Q3. Best use of your mental energi...

Re: Manuscript format question

Thank you very much, Liz :) I’ve got another question about word count, does two words linked by hythons count as one or two words? Compound words count as one. Father-in-law is one word, not three. But I suspect you're worrying too much. My count when I post to Scribophile is different to my count...

Re: Manuscript format question

Hello guys! I’m having a bit of problem figuring out when I should add an extra double space between paragraphs. From what I have read in the anthologies, (35&34) most authors add an extra double space when switching scenes, while others never do. I’m a bit confused about this... Also, should I ...

Re: Manuscript format question

You want both your title and page number in the right hand corner of the header. Otherwise, I think you've more or less got it? The only things you need to avoid including in your submission for WotF are your name in the header, your byline, and your address/e-mail. I usually write my prose in prop...
