Do NOT ask how I got hold of this - let's just say someone on the inside let me see it. The announcement isn't due for another month or so. Re: Brad's in Analog AGAIN...

Exactly three months: October 31 to January 31.

Yes, yes, the Bullfrog sequel is coming, but not before the sequel to, "The Chaplain's Assistant," gets done.

Re: Brad's in Analog AGAIN...

I am proud to announce that my friend and collaborator Alastair Mayer and I have sold our novelette, "Strobe Effect," to Analog Science Fiction & Fact. I had a lot of fun working on this story with Al. I think we both brought our strengths to the piece, and it's one of those stories wh...

Re: Connie Willis

Well deserved, on Connie's part. I think the best thing any of us can say about someone's writing, when they've reached Connie's level, and the work is not to our taste is that... it's not to our taste. Dean Wesley Smith taught me that lesson a few years ago, when I was mouthing off about how some b...

Re: Connie Willis

It seems inevitable that once a writer rises above a certain level, in terms of prestige and/or popularity, haters will crawl from the woodwork.

Several of the WOTF judges have detractors. Kevin J. Anderson's are far and away the worst.

We should all aspire to such notoriety. wotf013

I am refreshing this, so as to bring it to the top of the heap.

Sign-ups are still happening, and encouraged. For those of you considering a great workshop experience in 2012.

I highly recommend this.

Re: Analog Submissions

I think that's the way Dean & Kris explain it as well, so I'm sure you're not far off, Brad. I know I've heard the Topangia Canyon story more than once from Dean in relation to a writer that gave up, right before they were about to make it. All the editors knew the guys name and were waiting fo...

Re: Analog Submissions

Mind you, that's both anecdote and theory. But, having met and spoken with both Sheila and Stan, I tend to believe it. In my case, I'd gotten a brief number of personalized rejections from Dr. Schmidt, throughout 2009, leading up to my first sale in January of 2010. I do think Stan was waiting until...

Re: Analog Submissions

Administrative note: I got at least two or three dozen form rejections from Analog -- no clue on why I was being rejected -- before I got my first personalized rejections. Which were ultimately followed by sales. The lesson: try not to read too much into Analog form rejections. Your goals with Analo...

My rejections usually say, "This was a very good story, but Eric James Stone and Carl Fredrick already turned in similar stories to me earlier -- I am going to pass."

Re: Analog Submissions

A few notes about 'my' magazine.... wotf011 1) Flash fiction only works if it's done for the Probability Zero column. Alastair Mayer, who occasionally comes around here -- and who pro'd out of the Contest -- has published several PZ pieces, so he's a good resource on what makes a PZ piece tick. I su...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Glad to see you here, Dustin. And if your Finalist does get included in Vol. 28, it's the best of both worlds: you get the workshop, the publication money, the gala event, the trophy, *AND* you get to be like John Arkwright and keep submitting until you win -- and go back for more.

Hi Friends. New to the board--I have my second WotF entry in Q4 right now. Heard these boards are really helpful, so I'm excited to get started with them! As for other writing... I work as a technical writer, and I'm in the midst of revising a novel right now. Super exciting, I know. ;) Ah, Ms. Hol...

To be sure, these are not "entry level" workshops.

I wish Kris and Dean still did their weekend-long "Kris and Dean Show," that was the first one I ever did. And in many ways, it was the most fun, too.
